Now that the dust has settled and some of the bugs are worked out, how does everyone feel about the new trucks?

I have to say that each brand, style has it's own quirks but all in all I am really happy with the quiet and the ride. I'm really happy with the truck. I am old, bones ache and I am into comfort now more than ever. Truth being said, after driving the old junk for a year, this is a real nice relief. I used to get out of the old trucks after a trip and be dang near worn out. I find myself feeling better after a trip, less tired and well, the bones are happier.

The only thing I want to complain about is no Jake. Came off a hill the other day with 40k, flammable/flammable gas placards on the front trailer, flammable on the back trailer and had to stop at the scales at the bottom of the hill. Now after a 6 mile 6% down grade and have to stop at the bottom for the scales, well that is not fun. I am surprised they didn't stop me because as I was going across the scale, smoke was billowing from each axle. It was embarrassing to say the least. :drivin:

My question is, are they getting them switches in any of the trucks yet for the Jake?

Happy Monday all! Have a great week!

I'm really happy with mine. I love the comfort and the quiet. The only two complaints that I have is like you, no jake brake. It's just like the old days "smoke'em if you got them". The other complaint that I have is that they don't pull any better than the sterlings did.

I'm glad you long time drivers here finally got a decent truck to drive. I ran one a few weeks ago and they really are the best trucks I've ever seen here. I'm just happy to finally have an assigned unit and hope it does not get pushed out of my run this year - it's just an 04 but I have it where I want it and don't want to start another project if it can be avoided.

Con-way management - good call on the assigned trucks. Although it's not a perfect system, it's nice to run the same unit every night and we tend to stay ahead of the little problems and get them taken care of before they become big ones while improving morale at the same time. There will always be cynical people here, but I appreciate it as do most drivers.

Lovin my casscadia, so far. Assigned tractors are deffinitly the key to ensuring the the longevity of equipment. little things aren't overlooked that could eventually evolve into major issues :hissy:. Let's all hope that the april "evaluation" of milage on new equipment doesn't put us all into the "backbreakers" again....

Lots of companies are not using retarders on p&d and short line. Hell, the real Jake Brake has stopping power, these retarders don't.

The bean counters figure its cheaper to replace brake pads and drums then take the motor apart when the little "Jake" fails to work.

Nope. The truck is stuck at a different SC and no one to bring it home.

Yes. they are identical, except for the addition of the Jake switch. Last four of the unit I.D. starts with a O.......outside of that, they appear identical.

Yes, I seen on in USB. Their numbers are 432-0??? now. Official '10 series.

I was told that the jake will not come on if you are not going faster than 54 mph. Its set up that way in the on board comput. I was also told that i can not have my foot on the clutch peddle at all. some kind of switch i think.

we have been told we are getting 4 more at our barn which will give us a total of 6 so far. have been driving an 08 but have been told i will be getting a new one. dont really know if i really want to change..my 08 seems to have more get up an go than the new ones

Not having your foot on the clutch pedal so the Jake works it true with all trucks. You should never rest your foot on the clutch pedal anyway, it is hard on the throw out bearing for the clutch. Ask any mechanic.

My opinion is that the new ones run just as good or better than the '08s. Is it really all that important to pull a hill a couple of miles an hour faster? Really? These are very nice trucks and you will enjoy the quiet and comfort. Maybe you are just so young that all that stuff doesn't matter to you. I can tell you after a 550 mile run, when you get out of Cascadias you are not all worn out.

For the love of God In Christ...put the damn Jakes on those trucks running the mountains and passes...

I have run the west...the mountains...and the various passes...nothing much going up...can be a biach going down...

Nothing like going down a 5% or 7% knowing the only thing between you and God is your brakes...maintained by a company that will at its sole discretion end your career as it sees fit...based on a default that all things gone awry is the driver's fault.

You gottta have a Jake running the hills...retarders are just that...tarded!...

Further evidence the brainiacs in Ann Arbor haven't a clue...college educated wannabees that are clueless as to what we do...

Across the board decisions by folks who probably have never seen a mountain...let a lone go down one....

Not a lot of mountains in Ann Arbor...come to think of it...there are none...

Morons...

OK!!!...the Koolaid drinkers are invited to respond....

Just let me know how much west coast time you have had before running your mouth...

The best thing to happen to the fleet was Cat gave up building motors. :shift: Now that Detroit and 10 speeds are standard equipment we don't have to wait for the motor to get up to 1400-1500 RPM before the turbo starts to spool up. :hyper: With the Detroit the power band is even right up the RPM range. :kicking: There's places when your trying to drag a set of trips at gross up an on-ramp onto a freeway and with the P.O.S. Cat and a 7 speed it can cause your anal orifice to really pucker up. :hissy: But wait!!! You know the government and EPA are going to mandate new laws that will just screw that up for us.
