18 yrs of service and thrown out like yesterday's trash. I really do love con-way.

When my husband was hit with a forklift last year he was not injured, just sore and bruised up. I think he got a 9 out of 10 for his landing dismount 15 feet away. He would have gotten a 10 out of 10 if he would have landed on his feet. LOL :)

Handled driver to driver. Did not want the forklift guy to be yesterday's trash.

So "rumor" is only response so far, but that doesn't stop some from slamming the company.
Please don't let complete ignorance of the facts in any way prevent you from commenting.
Stunning.

Please share the facts? I'm just curious. Did the driver lose his job? Was the other driver seriously hurt? I worked that FAC every night while working for Con Way and would like to know if I knew these involved. I will wait for facts before I slam the company.

I know a Driver at my barn that did exact same thing about 6 yrs ago and he didn't even have 10 yrs in then and he still has his job and the guys foot he ran over sued the Company and got a huge check but the guy whom done it still working but 6 yrs ago we were a totally different Company too !!

I also know a Women who comes to our terminal on a reg basis and she ran over the night time line haul dispatcher and hurt him good and she is still working for Con~way as well he is still the night time dispatcher so maybe its whom ya know and or are Blowing ????

Is this the one that came in the email today? She was standing at the door, driver backing out of trailer turned sharply, pinning her against the pole?

Put down your Con-way provided pom-poms
Get off that con-way provided white horse for a second.
While some people might get on here to bash, the fact still remains, Con-way has the tendency to discard employees like garbage with no regard for their prior years of dedication, especially the big strappers with 20+ yrs. So if you have the propensity to do something, why would you think they would do otherwise?

When you sit in an office in Ann Arbor, you see the accident reports, you think gollyy how can we reduce these numbers...Gee fire people for getting into accidents, zero tolerance. I am in awe at what takes place on the docks of large reships.50+ forklifts just running crazy, moving freight. It is a sight to see. But this place likes to can people for one event.

He ran someone's foot over!!! You guys are okay with being hit or ran over by an 8000 lb plus object!!! If you hit someone with your car and injured them your charges would be worse than loss of employment.. Con-way is not the bad guy here. Most of the situations cried about on here are brought on by the individual that has no respect for the rules given for employment.

Yes he did. And that is not ok. We are all human beings. I'm sure everyone who has worked the reship has had to dodge a forklift because someone was working a piece of freight and they get side tracked. You are working some long awkward freight, you back up for a sec, and bam someone is walking by. It happens. In all your years of driving, have not not atleast hit something?Should the DMV take your license away because you got in a fender bender? Give me man a point, three days off without pay or something...And this is all under the assumption that he'll be fired.
and that is the whole point of insurance, to cover your butt in accidents.

So you run my foot over with a forklift they cut my foot off or I lose some toes changing my life forever and you sit home unpaid for three days. Good idea!!! Let me work side by side with these guys or gals trusting my life with these fools operating large machinery!!

Who says you loose a foot? I had a foot ran over by a lift 5 years ago, no permanent damage, still have all of my toes. There are no guarantees of complete safety in any profession. If you can't justify your risk in the transportation industry, maybe you need to find another way to make a living.

btw. The man that ran over my foot is still employed with us, and since then we have become very good friends. The accident was just that, an accident, he didn't do it on purpose. Why wreck his life for something that wasn't totally his fault? That's right, I take some of the blame too, we have all walked or stood too close to a forklift, trying to help balance an awkward piece of freight.

One thing I learned growing up on a farm in eastern Iowa is that you always look out for the the one operating the equipment. Stay away and/or pay attention to what is going on around you at all times. Its really sad that the person who operates our heavy equipment has to loose their career for the one who wasnt paying attention to him/her.

You can be fired for a major accident, on the road or the dock. Pinning someone between a pole and a lift is pretty major. And until you've seen somebody's employment file, then you don't know anthing about their history. Your all just speculating. He's probably not even fired at all..just rumors that sound good. Don't you think?
