Friday, August 20, 2010, 12:36 PM : Part of eastbound Interstate 10 over the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish between LaPlace and Kenner is closed due to a jacknifed 18 wheeler.
State Trooper Melissa Matey said the left lane of the span is open right now, although it may have to be blocked as the truck is uprighted.Troopers are currently diverting traffic from the interstate onto U.S. 51 through LaPlace. U.S. 51 turns into Airline Highway, allowing traffic to proceed into Kenner.
Matey said Interstate 55 remains open.
Matey said the accident occurred after a vehicle pulled onto the right shoulder of the interstate due to a flat tire. Traffic began to slow around the vehicle, and the driver of the 18 wheeler hit the breaks to stop his vehicle.
"He left 289 feet of skid marks, then impacted the left guardrail and the tractor-trailer jacknifed," she said.................
