Bidding Vacation, what do YOU think is the right way?

Runs and everything else is bid under Job lass. Vacations should also. Leave it the way it has been for all these years. Christmas and New Years should be done individually at each center as a LOTTERY, this way everyone has a chance, NOT JUST SENIOR DRIVERS.

Company time should count for something. Also there should be a way to take off for something big. One of the guys at our area is going on a cruise next Feb. but we don't bid vacations till Jan. He should be able go ahead and take that time. You can't ever plan for anything special.

I STILL haven't heard a thing about vaaction bidding. Starting to wonder WTF is goin on

We bid our vacation, haven't heard if it was approved yet. Had a monthly driver meeting yesterday and we were told should have vacation by next week. It was our first meeting so will be interesting to see if they keep up. No new info, uniform, lock your truck, wear your badge, no talking on the phone on blue tooth but he did say that one thru the CB was OK. Yada Yada Yada .

Isn't that funny about the phone thing? How many drivers you see in dispatch with things in their ears? 90%?

You need to look at the handbook. last i looked it is by company seinority not job class.

What's a handbook?
I've been here 16yrs & the only one I've seen is when I was hired by AF. They've just posted bids & the only thing we have is a paper next to it, listing all the reasons the mgmt can cancel start times, move drivers off their bids, yada, yada, yada... basically saying the bids are meaningless, nothing more than a placating move give the appearance that they actually mean anything.
If they can constantly cancel/alter bids & bring less senior drivers in ahead you, what good are the bids?....ie...call you up & tell you to come in 30 mins later & when you arrive, there are less senior drivers, with the same starting time, already on the road?
Is there a company policy in effect or does each terminal just make up it's own policy & rules for bids as they see fit? It's pretty much impossible to get any answers from the CCM/operations people, other than "I'll check on it".
Do the drivers actually have any rights?

No matter how you slice it or dice it, some people will ALWAYS CRY!!!!!

I'm not crying but when you have more than 20 guys on a board and all the top guys get to bid 3 and 4 weeks before you even get a chance to bid and your around #40 then guess what there is literally nothing left!I dont mind it going by job class seniority but make it to where everyone bids only one week until all have gotten a chance and then the senior guys can go back in and bid their 2,3,and 4th weeks,at least then I have a shot at a descent week with my wife and kids instead of having to pull my kids out of school for a week to take a vacation!

I can't wait to see how they do our 135+ guys with whatever is left of the year by the time they get around to it..lol. Guys are already talking about just calling off when they want a week. 5 days=3 unexcused

It was my understanding that you could only bid 2 weeks of vacation and then after everyone had bid you could go back and add other weeks or days to the bid. It's not fair to allow senior drivers to bid all of their vacation as the junior drivers would never be able to take off. The driver ahead of me always takes the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas and if he can get away with it New Years. When we had an xtra board driver he would take the week before Thanksgiving off with no pay so that driver could work(so he said) then take the week before Christmas off with no pay(so the xtra board driver could work) and take the days between Christmas and New Years off with no pay if he could swing it. I don't begrudge him taking the weeks of vacation but it sticks in my craw that our CCM lets him take those other weeks off as well. I have had relatives come in from out of state for Christmas and I was unable to visit with them because this other driver was already off. If they did it by company senority at my center then I believe a couple of drivers might be a little upset that they didn't get to take their regular weeks off for deer season and the holidays.
