Truckingboards suffered a catastrophic hardware failure on 03/20/2019

SSD Hard Drive failed completely and even though I had it set to make backups it did not back up properly. Hard Drive was completely dead and no way to recover anything on it.
I always did periodic manual backups but always assumed the automatic backups would be there but they weren't so lesson learned. Our database has gone back in time we are using a manual backup from 01/17/19

What does this mean to you as the user.

    1. If you registered after 01/17/19 you have no account here and no posts so you will have to re-register, there is no way to recover this data
    2. If you posted anything to your account, Changed any settings or anything on Truckingboards between 01/17/19 - 03/21/19 it is gone and not recoverable.

If you uploaded an avatar between those dates it will not be there and you will need to re upload

If you changed your password or email after 01/17/19 you will have to do it again

This is very disturbing to me and I am not happy about, Most of the blame is on me for not having better backups. Welcome back all

When I say data loss I don't mean the website was compromised I mean the data is just gone forever.
Truckingboards does not handle any sensitive data except your email address. That is all that would be ever stolen if the server was compromised.

We do no credit card transactions and anything we ever sold was thru paypal and they are a secure site.

I will soon be making updates to the site to stay ahead of the curve. Not today or tomorrow but soon.

This is the worst data loss since 2006

thanks man... just 3 days ago I said I need to do a manual backup but got sidetracked , now instead of a few days of data loss, I have 2 months worth... It could have always been worse though..

    Thanks

no 80 gb when I got this server SSD was still really expensive, we don't need a really big SSD we only use about 2gb or so for the last 12 years of data.

Thats why I never allowed actual image uploads to this site, it bloats the size and slows it down... All images are either hotlinked directly or uploaded to a dedicated image hosting site

I bought a used desk top and later a used backup lap top on amazon. Supposedly refurbished but they have a guarentee anyway and they do seem to solve the problems. I went with SSD and I just love how fast they boot up and shut down. I was really tired of the waiting to boot up. My old lap top would take maybe 4 minutes it was really slow. With the SSD drive I boot up in 11 seconds.

We have a loyal following on Truckingboards and I thank all of you who are new and all the old timers that have been here since 1999 on the free forum sites and those who came here from freighthauler.com way back then.

Truckingboards owns freighthauler.com now and has for several years since the late Everette Acker (aka gutterbum) called me up with only a couple of months to live and asked me if I wanted to buy it... He said he wanted me to buy it so it didn't fall into the wrong hands. There were many troll sites that tried to be competing sites back in the day.
