Kinda like when Ron Carey allowed Carolina Freight to keep working! That created ill will at our barn until most of the Carolina guys retired...they came over and placed their roster over ours...wow..thought old Andy Griffin was going to have to come down on a Sunday afternoon...oh well, it knocked me down about 6 slots.
Whups! I forgot about Ron Carey allowing Carolina and several other...."marginal"..carriers to run during the 1994 strike.......I know he was trying to keep part-timers out of freight,.....like how UPS abuses "part-timers".....Kind of collapsed on him,..after 2 weeks, he went to Federal mediation...
I guess he wasn't perfect,...but I think he was more honest with the rank-and-file,.....than the current "leadership".....
By the way,.....Mr. Carey was completely exonerated of all charges by the IRB,....one year before his death....
Our terminal was supposed to get 6 Carolina guys during the Worldwide...umm..."merger"....We only had 7 guys on our seniority list.
We had filed a grievance stating,....with evidence,....that the figures used to justify 6 transfers were skewed......
We...."won"....the grievance,....but we still had to take 2 guys........Both had over 40 years.....One retired within 6 months of getting hired,......The other stuck around for another 6 years.....
That grievance saved many of our guys' jobs......mine included,..bottom of list....
