ABF | Butch Lewis Act

How many pension funds could have been bailed out with the $150 Billion they gave to Iran? Make sure to call your congressmen they can pass bill to fund illegal alien assistance but not earned pensions.
A classic Trump lie. That was their money that we froze and released back to them as part of the Iranian nuclear deal.

Not to get political,.....but the 150 billion was...frozen assets of the Iranian government, being returned to them as per the (now defunct) agreement.

Not our money to spend.......

But I am very sure we can find other funding sources,.....Like the Government Mohair Subsidy,...or the National Helium Reserve......

Hey, don't go after my party balloons!!! :hilarious:

Hoffa should not have let UPS leave Central States what happened to that 6 Billion why was it gambled in the stock market casino instead of fixed income?
Hoffa shouldn't have given UPSF/Overnite a stand alone sweetheart contract. He should have allowed the men to be a part of the NMFA and the MEPFs like they had wanted. The day Hoffa and Hall did that was the day he signaled the end of the NMFA

How will James P. Hoffa be viewed in Labor history? Certainly not as a strong leader,.....
The withdrawal of the Teamsters from the AFL-CIO is just one of the missteps committed by Mr. Hoffa.....

Destruction of the NMFA,.....poor organizing, cut-rate contracts, failure to place UPS Freight under either the NMFA, or the UPS contract,....and establishment of a .......third National contract.....substandard to the other two,.......

Destruction of pensions.....

The list goes on and on........

I don’t think he qualifies for a statue in his honor for his defense of Labor......

Unless he pays for it himself.........

I wish Hoffa would just go away really you are 77 can retire with big pension time for new leadership. Forcing the UPS contract when the company were ready to come back to the table after the NO vote is disgusting unforgiveable in my opinion then the locals go along with it saying its important everyone votes you really think the part timers give a crap unreal. Even the ABF contract pension contributions frozen at current rates when the company is making a profit their going to want the same deal YRC got next contract we will be on 401scams. UPS too they already cut the pension for non-union employees the Union employees will be next even thought UPS make Billions in profits.

Hoffa can't retire, he's in central states....

Union officials have their own fully funded Pension plan why do you think they force pension cuts on us does not effect them.
So not true! I I know that based on their positions, where and whom they represent is factor in where theit pension comes...i know a retired leader that drew lump sums from 2 different funds.. multi million lump sums..

Kinda like when Ron Carey allowed Carolina Freight to keep working! That created ill will at our barn until most of the Carolina guys retired...they came over and placed their roster over ours...wow..thought old Andy Griffin was going to have to come down on a Sunday afternoon...oh well, it knocked me down about 6 slots.

A classic Trump lie. That was their money that we froze and released back to them as part of the Iranian nuclear deal.
what else can we blame Trump for? When you turn on the 24 hr news channel, all you see is impeach Trump, criticize Trump, Illegal immigration (what does the word illegal mean?). All of this stuff happened WAY BEFORE the current administration. And by the way, in the past, I have almost always voted democrat, so don't even try to go there...

Whups! I forgot about Ron Carey allowing Carolina and several other...."marginal"..carriers to run during the 1994 strike.......I know he was trying to keep part-timers out of freight,.....like how UPS abuses "part-timers".....Kind of collapsed on him,..after 2 weeks, he went to Federal mediation...

I guess he wasn't perfect,...but I think he was more honest with the rank-and-file,.....than the current "leadership".....

By the way,.....Mr. Carey was completely exonerated of all charges by the IRB,....one year before his death....

Our terminal was supposed to get 6 Carolina guys during the Worldwide...umm..."merger"....We only had 7 guys on our seniority list.
We had filed a grievance stating,....with evidence,....that the figures used to justify 6 transfers were skewed......
We...."won"....the grievance,....but we still had to take 2 guys........Both had over 40 years.....One retired within 6 months of getting hired,......The other stuck around for another 6 years.....

That grievance saved many of our guys' jobs......mine included,..bottom of list....

what else can we blame Trump for?

Sorry to go further off topic on the Butch Lewis Act. But since you asked I blame Trump for firing Schulkin from the VA and replacing him with this clown.

“This is not a draftee army anymore,” he said. “These are all volunteers, and you have to take better care of them than you did in the draftee days, where it didn’t matter what the individual soldiers did (because) there were 10 coming in to replace them on any day.”

It sounds to me like he considers WWII, Korean and Vietnam War draftee veterans as being just cannon fodder.

I enlisted about 8 months before the end of the draft........puts me in a weird spot, doesn’t it?

A couple of years ago, I had heard that a new VA facility was having an open house,....and as I was figuring on retiring within a few years, I thought I should check out VA care......

To my surprise,.....and disgust,.......I was told that a bill that passed Congress in 2006 made VA availability “ means-based”........
Which meant you only qualify for VA care if you make less than poverty level.......

Not what I was told when I enlisted........My father used VA as his primary care up until he passed,........no “income” qualifier for him....

Oh well........if they keep on cutting pensions,....(another promise broken...)......maybe I can combine VA and Medicare......
........if I become poor enough........

Don’t seem to be many of these plush-bottom, soft-handed, tubby, four-eyed Government......”servants”.......that can keep the promises of the past intact.......

.......and I certainly didn’t consider myself “cannon fodder”.......
But I do remember many people treating military at that time as......some sort of second-class citizen.....

In fact,......I distinctly remember an Alabama State Trooper........mirrored sunglasses and all.......
Telling me,.....as his partner stripped out my car, throwing my Air Force uniforms and civilian clothes in a big pile on the side of the road.......
That he considered all military people as “short-haired hippies” as far as he was concerned......

401k is the biggest scam around when everyone used to have pensions

The worst part is the withdrawal liability payment is only like 7yrs of full pensions payments UPS got the deal of a lifetime it's a shame the union sells out it's members like that while the Union Officers still get full pension opt out or go fair share.

You may think a 401k is a scam but it is not dependent on any other companies or employees for you to succeed. A 401k is dependent on the same stock market that you pension fund is dependent on for growth.
A pension ponzi scheme only works when you have more people paying into the scheme than withdrawing. Any one with any intelligence could see the number of participants in teamster funds dwindling while at the same time the teamster 'leaders' sat fiddling doing nothing about it.
Good for you that you trusted your pension rather than an individual retirement account. I did not.
You positioned yourself so that the very best outcome is a handout from the taxpayers, which unfortunately will never come. The politicians are doing to you exactly what your union leaders did. But you keep waiting for that government cheese, hang in there, you may get a slice...………...
