There needs to be uniformity and accountability in this company, I only wish there were other viable options as opposed to the Teamsters.
Man, You said an awful lot in that one sentence... Spot on.

On the topic of viable options... There ARE, in fact, other Unions that can (and would) represent drivers. The attempt to seek representation may have been significantly more successful with one of the other options. Many who did support the effort, could not bring themselves to support the Teamsters, which as it turns out, were ill prepared for (and NOT up to) the task. If they couldn't do it then, NO way they could do it today. Just the truth.

The effort was not without gains/corrections, none of which would have occurred without said effort, IMHO.

There needs to be strong and effective (private sector) Unions available. The principal of strength in numbers, and negotiating for fairness, is absolutely sound.

Keeping it short, a simple search will turn up hundreds of threads on the topic in the FedEx Freight forum. This one thread alone had nearly 13,000 replies. https://www.truckingboards.com/bb/threads/the-union-debate-thread.65416/

Jeff (of truckingboards fame) could easily write a book on this topic, the final chapter of which seems to be being written as we speak.

Today is the day.

I'm sure the official press release is already written, just waiting on the actual numbers to be edited in.

Voting ends @ 10:00 am on the west coast.

FedEx Freight Workers in California Vote to Keep Union

"Teamsters Local 439 President Robert Nicewonger cited the strength of the members’ commitment. “The members are extremely strong and they have been for quite some time, naturally,” he said. “I mean this is the only location that’s still union, so they’re fairly self-sufficient.”

A FedEx spokesman didn’t immediately return a request for comment after the vote, but beforehand, said the company welcomed the election."

Still zero mention from Corporate on the matter:

That's gonna ruin Fred's weekend

Looking back at the original numbers... Didn't realize it's been 4 YEARS!

Over 4 YEARS ago the vote for representation was 73+% (33-12).

Now it's 66% (31-16).

Still, after 4 years, that is a strong majority. I'm not about to second guess that. Clearly most are pleased, or at least content.

As a side note, beyond the above news story, there is zero mention of it anywhere. Not even (yet) on the Teamster website, nor FedEx news.

July 2013 contract and I can't find what I was looking for that said ABF management is very happy with the new contract for 2018.

https://talkbusiness.net/2013/06/union-approves-abf-contract-terms-remain-updated/

"Roy Slagle, president and CEO of ABF Freight, was happy with the result."

" Union members employed by ABF Freight System have approved a new five-year contract that will see a wage reduction for drivers through July 2014 and changes in work schedules.

Well, they sort of approved a new contract."

I think the Teamsters days are gone, but it will be interesting to see whats happens in California. Might even help at other centers if management fears a Teamsters flu.
Vaccination for the Teamsters flu = Cash in my check. :15: but I also dream of winning the Power Ball and the odds might be the same.
Social Security is still a good retirement if you can find a space to pitch your tent under the freeway or park a trashed RV near your favorite terminal. Social Security is going broke by 2030 so not the best long term plan. Still dreaming Power Ball as my long term plan.

What's your point? We got all our money & vacation back, it was monkey see monkey do back then yrc took a cut abf wanted the same thing. Im not saying the union is perfect but i'd rather have some kind of representation with big business because your nothing more then a number and very replaceable....

Is there a point to your senseless rant?
