What's the run down on their line haul? Saw they were hiring and went to apply. Won't hear back till Monday due to the recruiting manager being out.

will come in as an extra man on either board. BIG changes to that facility. plans to build a separate city dock. I heard anywhere from 40-60 doors. more than likely, the later...

Are the extra guys at least working 5 days a week there?

as far as I know... they are going "crazy" right now...

That's what I want to hear.

Ok, last question and maybe I should have led with this, I have a year in at NEMF. Is OD considered a good company to step up into?

I already know the starting pay is significantly more then what I make now and benefits are similar but possibly cheaper. When I was there everyone seemed to be in a joyful mood but does that ring true through out the company?

I get that there will alway be that guy who hates to work but are people generally happy with their job there is what I'm trying to ask?

I'm working on getting a start date in there myself. I just have to do what is basically a pick things up and put them down test. I jockey where I'm currently at and the city drivers that I've met in our yard all seem to have good things to say. My pops is a linehaul driver for a competitor of both OD and NEMF and he told me flat out that if he didn't have 15 years seniority he'd be on his way to OD as well. The one thing I will tell you is that you need to make sure they know you want the job. After not hearing back from them in 2 weeks I started calling in and asking about the status of my application. The Linehaul manager seemed to like the fact that I was constantly checking in. As long as it all goes well this week coming up I'm hoping to start sometime shortly after the July 4th weekend. Good luck on your hunt.

I have been in trucking a long time, pulled about most anything you could put behind a tractor. In all those years, I can honestly say, this is the best company that I have worked for. Do we have good and not so good days... YES;but, Old Dominion has encompassed a healthy work envoirment and a positive work culture.. if you want to talk stats, lowest operating ratio and largest growth in LTL last year. is it a "good" company? yes ! Some terminals are very hard to hire into.. the squeaky wheel gets the grease... keep calling and calling and calling, stop in and let them know you. I don't believe in luck; but fulfilling your destiny. Make it happen, we always need good people..

HAR is a great place to get into ODFL. As far as I know, they're hiring L/H and combo drivers. The trend over the past few years at HAR is that new L/H drivers will move up 20-30 seniority spots in their first year, then it starts tapering off. Keep in mind that combo drivers don't get seniority that counts towards L/H. Also keep in mind that at some other large terminals, some drivers have to either team for a few years or are wild bag drivers for a few years before they can even get a chance at night wild turn or a night schedule. In short, HAR is an excellent terminal to start at ODFL as a L/H driver.

Most everybody starts as a wild bag driver in L/H. Night wild turns can usually be had in a few months to 6 months. Night schedule runs can be had in about the same amount of time. Of course, this can always change, but this has been the trend. You won't be lacking for work - you'll get your 5 days a week.

Best of luck. Once you're road test / drug test / app has been finished, corporate usually takes a few weeks to confirm for hire.

Can you explain to me what a combo driver is and why are they exempt from gaining seniority?

Combo is P&D and L/H. They don't get to ever bid on L/H runs since they aren't L/H, and don't establish L/H seniority. They are also not just P&D drivers. Combo drivers can eventually switch to L/H or P&D if the opportunity is available.

They are given P&D or L/H assignments, depending on what's needed at the time. Some drivers choose combo because you get to run daylight and be home every day from the beginning, whereas when starting with L/H you are running nights and usually out a few times a week as a bag driver.

Combo drivers do establish seniority amongst themselves. I'm assuming they use this to choose starting times, although I'm not quite sure. I don't know how their seniority works, I just know it doesn't count towards L/H or P&D, since they're not considered L/H or P&D drivers, but combo drivers.

Thanks for the clarification. Got my interview tomorrow so if all goes well I'll be seeing you all out there!

Good luck to you! OD is a place you can just stay at for the rest of your career. Seriously consider going L/H, if you weren't already. Pay your dues, and in less than a year, you'll have a schedule run. Probably more like under 6 months you'll have a schedule, unless you like being wild. Wild has its advantages. It's all personal preference. But L/H has the most upside.

Can anyone give me contact info for Carlisle. I kinda feel like I'm being ignored bc I have almost 8 yrs ltl experience, but am coming from a union company that I wanna leave
