Complete Committee Letters

"...I agree with #1 in as far as to say that each side needs to negotiate something that they can live with and be proud of. Employees need good benifits but not at the expense of keeping the company from competing in the industry. What good is the perfect wage and benefits package for any employee union or non union alike if the company is no longer around to pay the wages or benefits that may be agreed to? I find it strange that many contracts that have been negotiated as of late between the teamsters and other companies competing with Oakh and backed by companies with deeper pockets fall short in what Oakh is offering. How is Oakh supposed to compete with those same companies if you get everything you are looking for? Maybe more attention needs to be placed in ensuring those companies pay in wages and offer in benefits what Oakh does PRIOR to condeming Oakh..."

Well, son... you seem to forget a few things here. One major item is that some of theose other labor agreements you refer to with the competition are first-time labor agreements, and what they may lack on the benefits end, they make up for in light-years ont he wage end. On other words, their labor costs are still higher than OHFL by a damned sight.

Secondly, you also seem to forget their are other companies out there such as ABF that are paying amongst the highest in labor costs (NMFA), but seem to be weathering the last year far better than most of their competition, both union and non-union.

Why are they different? Management. As in better management.

We are simply trying to keep what we have always had, and what we feel we deserve for our labors. The VP's have never claimed an inability to pay... they simply want to line their pockets even further at our expense, and that just isn't going to fly anymore...

"...#2 All I have heard time and time again is only that the company wants to continue to be in business at its 100 year anniversary. I NEVER once heard the companies goal was to bust the union either directly or indirectly. Is that what they told you, or just your opinion?"

Reliable sources from within management is where I have this particular item from, and from someone I know would have had access to this information. I don't think they are going to put that into their DVD, though.

Not really a morale-booster, know what I mean?

"...#3 Negotiations is a 50/50 thing. The union in my opinion has as much responsibility in wrapping this thing up and getting "serious" as you put it. Posting "WE WILL KILL THE COMPANY" seems to me to be a comment from an individual that is not interested in contributing their 50% or taking an objective look at the overall perspective that includes what is going on in the industry as much as what is going on internally with Oakh. The ART-man is doing his job. His job is to put freight on his new companies trucks, not yours. Stop pretending that you have no control over that and STOP giving him amunition..."

The union has tried negotiating in good faith all along. The company's negotiators have responded by removing important items and proposing ludicrous new language in order to get us to negotiate hard just to get back to where we were before. Not exactly the actions of a company who wants a deal quickly or easily.

In addition, the company has engaged a massive propaganda campaign aimed at destabilizing the union workforce with veiled threats, innuendo, and instructions on how to cross picket lines, which quite frankly is a spit in the eye to the union and the union workforce.

So let's get off of the high horse here, and while we're at it it... how many times exactly have you sat at the negotiating table? I mean, you want to give us lessons on how to negotiate, so I figure you must have a lot of experience at it.

And as for Art... well, he had plenty of reasons to go after our customers, labor dispute or not, and as you well know. Axes to grind, and so forth. And trust me, he's not the only competitor salesman circling around like a vulture waiting for the last gasp of breat from the dying animal known as OHFL.

And the point truly is that in this industry at this time, it ain't going to take much to kill Oak Harbor if they push us into it. It really is their choice. Come to an agreement and prosper... or take us on and suffer an ugly demise...

"...#4 Respect works both ways. Lead by example and show some appreciation and give back the occasional kuddos to the owners for the things that are working right. I find it hard to believe you have not had any good experiences at this company, otherwise why would you continue to work for Oakh?

What little works right around Oak Harbor has little to do with either Dave or Ed. It usually has to do with the often under-appreciated front-line employees who have to suffer through mismanagement, hare-brained operational schemes that ultimately fail (can you say "route-optimization? Can you say "cross-docking"), mis-spec'ed equipment, and a corporate culture bent on trying it's best to **** off the customers and ignoring the experienced advice of it's own employees.

Anyone can pay lip service to the employees, and Dave and Ed often do in their little DVDs and newsletters, but it's down where the rubber meets the road where appreciation counts. And that's where Dave and Ed seem bent on sticking the screws to their own employees, union and non-union. The only difference is... the union employees have a choice to not take such treatment, and we certainly have a great deal of support on the non-union side, whether anyone wants to believe it or not.

It's called hearing it straight from the horse's mouth, dig?

To sum up my feelings on the state of things, let me say this: Oak Harbor's management and owners have a distinct choice to make in the next round of negotiations. The choice is to come to an agreement the unionized employees can live with, and I think we all know that has to include Teamster H&W and pension; or take the road of disagreement, conflict and ultimately... demise.

We've always been willing to bargain... up to a point. But we have our line drawn in the sand, and we plan on sticking by it, so I highly suggest the VP's get off the dime, and start getting real, or we are going to war...

IN this down economy and with just signing a countrct that keeps all of the benifits intact ABF is still hiring. The management is responsible for the numbers, no the work force. The VP's say they can not compete in this current market. Have any of them EVER had to reduce their style of living? With the price of everything increasing they want their work force to sweat a little harder, work a little faster, and have their families do with less so the good name of Oak Harbor can stay a profitable company. Didn't our grandparents fight to change this kind work place?????????

Shifterknob is a KNOB ALRIGHT

Dear Oak Harbor Brothers:
If idiots like knobby speak for most of you I would be very surprised. He makes you guys sound like bumpkins. Tell him to shut up and quit this baloney blog. 400 drivers don't want a strike and besides all you OH drivers are *****s and not real Teamsters.

Just sign the darn contract or lose your jobs.

I know when an employer says they will replace you they will.

How stupid can you be by thinking a bunch of lowly $25 dollar an hour losers that push rigs up and down the highway ARE GONNA CLOSE A COMPANY!!! That is why I finally had to post. Ball caps, plaid shirts, and *****y wives, thats all you will have. You're going to stop them from operating ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

What you gonna do...yell a lot *****s. 400 new guys will be there the first morning and you idiots are down the road with you Shifterknobs stuck somewhere that the sun don't shine.

Good Luck Girls!!!!

califteamster1 isWAY out of line! number one Your not a teamster your a coward who hides behind a computer. Number two. if 400 workers go out on strike it will take 800 ***** to do the job. you dont jump into a company and produce like a veteran. Three if you go on strike you will loose the lions share of your business the first couple of days. Some one will haul it union or not. Four if the company NEEDS this amount of consessions to survive its ALLOVER anyway!! thousands of trucklines have done the samething ! you might run for awile BUT how long ? The small and medium size companys are being squeezed HARD ! you better have deep pockets to survive the next few years

C'mon... the guy is clearly a company plant. Give us a break, dude... talk about being obvious...

(cough cough) Loser!

When in Portland

If you are in Portland and have a problem you best not call your BA, The Sec Tres of Local 81 has suspended him for 4 weeks for not attending a NMFA proposal meeting.

Originally the punishment was to be served 1 week a month so as to hasten the impact of only having one representative. It seems that Strickland is so vindictive that he wants to make our BA and our Teamster Brothers family suffer the loss of medical care, that'll show em' way to look after your brothers!

Strike fund? I think we pay pretty near the highest dues in the country. Sec. Tres of local 81 made 91k last year (I should mention that includes about 10k in fringe benefits he alloted himself).. Maybe he could take a pay cut to help out the strike fund?

Once again you are running around spouting off with only half the facts.

And that really has nothing to do with this thread, so why not mosey over to the Union forum, and spout your misinformation over there?:1036316054:

Misinformation? I got the salary data from the unions LM 2 reports.

At a meeting Tom outlined how the suspension would be served, now their is a posting on my union board that contradicts his statements at that meeting. It's the truth and while you may not like it, or agree, I am pretty sure Truckingboards rules allow Teamster discussion in company forums that are represented by the Teamsters Union.

This thread is about OHFL, not Local 81. There is a forum more appropriate for this topic called the Union Forum, and I would prefer you take this crap you are spewing over there, and quit trying to drag the conversation off-track over here...

Hey Knob

Don't you work or do you just sit back at Mom's basement and type with 1 hand? How can you be on here all day? Unless you are on of our fearless leaders who do nothing for our dues.

Wonder what other sites you sit on with that knob placed somewhere.

Get a job. Get off the Internet. Get our of Mom's basement. Find a good man for yourself and GET THE HELL OFF THIS BOARD!

Whats new? What happened during the last round of talks with TJ? Did the company compromise on the health care issue, does the union plan on putting their most recent proposal to the members to vote on? Are local 81 and 174 even involved in the negotiations at this point or has the Intl. taken complete control of the situation? Is a company posing as "Pacific Transport" really a emergency staffing service the Vanderpol's have retained screening and hiring applicants to fill Oak Harbor employee's positions in the event of a strike? If so, why wait to strike and give them more time to prepare?

I really believe the last contract was only signed because they were not fully prepared to deal with a strike, they only signed a two year deal because they wanted it to come to this point. My opinion is something has got to give, either they are going to get control of the medical or its strike time, next contract they will come for the pensions.

Why does this company hold their employees in such contempt?

Hey Cali-Team-of-One. Sure glad that you are showing your true side. Teamster my aching azz. Funny how this board has survived for some time without your stupidity. You know little except how to open your mouth and show your ignorance and you do an excellent job of that. I sincerely like how you waltz in here and tell someone to leave. I don't think that you are in much of a position to tell anything to anyone. So kindly say goodbye and don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way.

Moderators, this person only goal is to cause trouble how about giving him the heave-ho if he can't depart on his own.

If you "had to finally post," then so do I.

First of all, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to hire a new driver because of new regulations. Aside from that, they have to pass a pee test, and most of them can't.

There isn't a massive influx of new faces filling out applications at these terminals.

I believe the company has emphatically stated, if you strike we will close the doors, we have already made our money.
If they don't care, then why would they be hiring your "400 new guys?"

Get your lies straight, cause they're not jiving!!!!!!!

Why does this company hold their employees in such contempt?

Nothing. Union gave them a counter proposal. They meet on the 19th again.

IBT has control. Locals were only at the meeting on the last day and only for a short time.

Pacific Transport Services, Pacific Transport Services, LLC. is the sham company that I bet it is setup by Modern Staffing and Security Best strike replacements replacement workers: Modern Staffing and Security Most Experienced strike replacements replacement workers: strike replacements Best - MMK4MKT who is the specialist in Union busting.

Most everyone is prepared to strike and tell the VP's to kiss our butts. But as long as they are talking I don't think the Union will call for strike. If we strike the VP's will cry "look at what the big bad Unions doing to us." As you know the members have already OKed strike action.

I agree with the rest of what you say. As far as why they "love us so much they want to preform sexual intercourse with us where no man has gone before" is any ones guess. Must fall under a past practice rule somewhere.:biglaugh:

As for Peninsula must be nice to work for a VP who cares. Guess I can dream...

There will not be a strike regardless of what you guys say. Wait and see. 40% union will not close the doors to Oak Habor. If you don't like it go some where else. You won't be missed.

TOTHECORE-------IF all 400 teamster's run the west coast it will shut them down, the barns are all teamsters as well as every terminal in washington.Let me guess you think those small terminals can keep JOKE HARBOR afloat your dreaming just like your hero's the VP'S good luck on your survival as a ****..........LMAO

A question for you all? Is Pacific Transport Services, those gray tractors pulling long boxes, out of Sumner, WA.? I see them every so often going up and down I-5 in Oregon.

Good luck on your contract negotiations. I hope you guys get everything you are looking for.
