Can anyone tell me the difference, if any, between a Road Driver @ Freight compared to a Linehaul Driver @ Natl???
Same pay...amount of time working the dock as a new driver.
I am a recent new hire Road Driver with FXF and I drive 45 miles to a terminal and work the dock for 8 hours....Maybe new hire Linehaul drivers @ FX Natl. drive more miles and do not work the dock???

I can't tell you about FXFN, but I can tell you about FXF since I've worked for them for the past 33 years. Before the wiz kids took over the line haul operation in Hootersville, we used to have local drivers, line drivers/road drivers its just a case of semantics, dock workers, shuttle drivers, fuelers, yard hauslers, dock workers, and office help. The wiz kids decided to eliminate most of the full time dock workers positions. They were offered part time status with no benefits. Some of these professional dock workers had more than 25 years of service with the company. Most of the yard hauslers positions were eliminated. They decided that the line drivers could do the work of the yard hauslers. Break up their sets and spot their trailers. They eliminated all the fuelers. They decided that the line drivers could fuel their own trucks. Some of the shuttle drivers did some dock work, but most of the time they just moved trailers from terminal to terminal in a large metropolitan area like Los Angeles. The Wiz Kids put two companies who were showing a profit Viking Freight System, and American Freightways together to form Fedex Freight. They turned the entire line haul system upside down, and now we are losing money hand over fist, and our customers, the people who pay the bills, we are going to train them to do business our way. They also decided Purchase Transportation would cover all the runs that the old line drivers, now dock workers used to cover. They also managed to put the morale of line haul in the toilet. You are not a line driver or a road driver my friend, your a shuttle driver/dock worker. If you can get enough seniority to bid on a line run, then this will get you off the dock. Until that time or unless they change the system your stuck with what you have. Sorry my friend, but that's the facts of life at the new and improved FXF. TP

Thanks for your insight...just wish you had more encouraging info.. At age 51, it looks like I am in for a challenge...just last week 2 of the older new hires were injured on the job:-(

[/quote]I work for my paycheck ... just like everyone else .. so please don't call me spoiled. :shift:

CMH is growing FAST. If you're getting hired now, within a few months you should be off Dayton. I'd say you should stick it out here, Fedex National has been losing money since we bought them, and we all know what eventually happens when a company loses money for too long.

You guessed it...CMH Sounds like good advice...hopefully CMH will hire about 100 Road Drivers this year:-)

Still working the city but should be on the road by May 10

Once we bid, probably July 1st, that includes the full 13 drivers we are adding, that should put 10 drivers under you and currently there are 7 dayton runs, so that right there will mean you get off it.
