ODFL | Directions

he problem using which directions need changing need to get the old directions out of the system I've had dispatchers dispatch two different directions to two different drivers they had my buddy going to the old terminal!!!

I am surprised that OD does not have a Master Direction book for all line haul drivers. If not at the dispatch area than at least with the gaurds at black terminals. If I did not know where a term was one weekend they might not have gotten the freight until Monday sometime. Yeah, I realize they would not have paid for time or motel. Now go figure.

Which directions,terminal to terminal,need changing ?

All of them basically. Some are outright wrong and direct you to old terminals.

Others have not been changed since new road construction has finished or new routes have been opened by DOT. Some directions from GBO to other terminals are a good example of this.

Most directions are vague and lack mile markers, exit numbers, or distance estimates from turn to turn. There was one set of directions that told you to turn at a store that has long since been gone.

A driver at our terminal was sent from AUG to NGA one night and central told him they had no directions on file. When asked what might be the best legal route to take central said "idunnoknow".

Best source of directions I have found have been asking other drivers. Or make sure you have a good drivers atlas in the truck with you.

Where do your driving/pay miles come from ? How accurate are they ?

It's just that the trip sheet had alot of unnecessary and confusing information that was in fact for arriving at an old terminal. Another driver and I thought that if driver's who have been several time's to a particular terminal or meet and turn would write down how to get there including mile markers and good concrete fact's; of course everyone would have to be on the same page with this, and turn it in to their dispatcher or terminal manager we would have something. We have enough to worry about on the road. We don't need to be wondering if the direction's are accurate or not.

As far as where do the driving/pay miles come from I can not get an accurate answer. Seems that someone must have picked a route to get the miles even if they did not list out the directions. As for accuracy they are pretty good. Most I have seen are within 5 miles.

I talked to a couple of other drivers about turning in new directions on some routes. Spoke to dispatchers in the big break terminals and central. We all got told the same thing. "That stuff is handled in corporate and no need for you or us to worry about it," is the answer we got.:duh::duh::duh:

Directions are wrong to many terminals. When you tell someone you usually get blown off like Redeemed said. Ran wild last week because of slow freight and went to some new terminals and an old one I hadn't been to, directions are a disaster. Also if the directions to get there are right the directions to leave there might be wrong as they are still from the old terminal so be careful. A left turn out of the new terminal's gate might not be the where you want to go.

I have gotten trip sheets with absolutely no directions on it yet they do have mileage. i beat the mileage so I'm surely not going to say anything about that one.

I did come across something that I marveled at on an OD trip sheet. The directions to the terminal were not only correct but along with the terminal directions there were directions to the motel. Now that's the guy they need to find, they probably fired him for some BS thing, and let him fix all of the directions. Imagine someone smart enough to have that on the trip sheet, I'd bet he didn't go to college.
