You really should quit. You are not wanted at this company. You hate the union and you hate the company but no other company will hire you. Which is pathetic. With CDL drivers in high demand you have to stay at a company you hate. Is it your poor driving record? That you you have been caught stealing from the company?

I could be wrong, but I don't recall him hating the company. What I recall reading was that he hated what the company and the union have become. The company in the last ten years or so has changed from a place where all workers where respected to a place where your just another number. The union has forgotten they work for us, and until we can vote them out, I don't see it changing.
 
No, it's not a Union thing, Brother........Any change in jobs or dispatch has to be negotiated in a Change Of Operation,....and drivers are contractually allowed to "follow the work".
This makes the Union companies think their strategic use of the road drivers through....and protects guys from randomly being jerked from job to job,..or out of a job...

Not perfect,....but it does do a good job of protecting the available work,....and prevents a company from closing a facility out of,.......revenge...(...like a threat of an organization drive..)..

The smaller end-of-line terminals are,....usually,....serviced by the linehaul drivers out of the larger hubs.
And let’s not forget the UE drivers out of the EOL terminals. Does every EOL have at least one UE driver that runs to the closest breakbulk?
 
So you hire a lawyer to represent you and refuse to follow his advice because he told you? How about a real estate agent? Would you have a problem with what a real estate agent negotiated for you? How about a fireman telling you to jump out a window to avoid being burnt in a fire? Or how about a fireman telling you to drop your child out a 3rd story window to avoid the same flames? How about consumer reports, would you disregard everything in consumer reports just because they "printed" the safety ratings of a product?
And do we even want to get into the recommendations of your doctor? How many times have you followed the instructions of your doctor simply because your doctor said so? Well, how many ? This is not a theoretical question, I would like to know how many times you blindly followed your doctors instructions because your doctor said for you to get this shot, take those pills, visit this specialist?

And to answer your question (because you asked and I expect you to answer mine) I would walk over to the edge and look. But if the majority of people where jumping off the bridge, then yes I would jump. I'm smart enough to know that if the majority of people are jumping off a bridge there is a really good reason! Or don't you think most people would look before jumping? Any group of people you know that would walk out on a bridge and jump off just because they were told? What group would that be? The name of this group of people please.

Not having a dog in this hunt, and being the troll that I am, I recall a guy named Jim Jones, he didn't have a bridge, but got the same results.

Yes he did. But he also preached to religious fanatics. Charles Manson had the same kind of followers. And the group who disfigured themselves to get a ride on halley's comet. All of those individuals gave all their belongings (worldly goods) to worship. No one I know worships the company or the union.

As for the company, so long as they keep hiring yes people, we can't change that till it starts to effect the bottom line. As for other employees you try an educate and keep them informed. That's what imho is killing off the unions today, nobody keeping up on what's going on in the locals, not voting at all, letting a hand full of people choose what's right for them. I have no problem with yes voters, like I said I have a problem with voting yes or no because someone told them to. The thing that pisses me off more then anything, Is not voting at all. If it were up to me, not voting (especially being able to do it on the phone or computer)without being in a hospital in ICU, there should be a bylaw to be fined by the union or kind of reprimand.

Our Union had strength in the days before the internet, cell phones and trucking forums.. All of these have led to both the Union demise and Company moving away from the Teamsters. 10 years we have no jobs!! Guaranteed. Especially with all the division. As we have seen, more and more of their business is moving away from LTL. Before long we will no longer be viable and its over!! And your worried about cameras? when you are to drive, be rested and be safe? My question is, what are you all afraid of them seeing? Dialing up buddies, checking facebook? Use your energy to reform our Union and Organize.

Yes, I have my own self respect and privacy. The cameras in the truck are an absolute invasion of privacy. You don’t like the cameras you sign the petition, if you don’t care then don’t. It’s the employees choice. I see it as trying to divert liability onto drivers instead of the company.
 
I got a message from a friend of mine, seems that someone in the Western PA conference has filed a grievance regarding the driver facing camera issue. If it’s clearly stated in the contract the company hasn’t this right (not arguing for it, I think inward facing cameras are a gross overreach into privacy) why would they file on it? Seems like a waste of time.

As a.....Western Pennsylvanian......I can state that many of us have been talking about this ...issue for a while. Being retired,..means I can no longer file grievances,...no matter how hard I try.
There is an issue,..like I stated at the beginning of this thread,...that the NLRB states that you can't impose...."new conditions of employment".....on existing employees.......without having the right to negotiate those "new conditions".....and all the parameters regarding their use.

The company has the...."right".....to install any new equipment on their property. But,....it is HOW the equipment can affect any employee's job,...(..discipline..).....that can be negotiated....
Hell,....If the company wants,....it can cover every linehaul tractor with shag carpet,..ala' "Dumb and Dumber"..........Inherently stupid,....but if you have a...carpet allergy, you have a legal and contractual issue......

This, however,......is going to point out the......very large,.....difference between "employment-at-will",....and having a contract.
"Employment-at-Will"...........means non-Union (non-contractual..)...companies...CAN impose ANY sort of "condition".....and as an "at-will" employee,...you must accept,....or quit......

There is also the issue of the Fourth Amendment. If....the cameras,....and YOUR IMAGE can be used in a court of law,..to YOUR disadvantage.....you are "not secure in your person, property, and papers".
And,....how about..."self-incrimination"? That would be the Fifth Amendment.......You'd be....involuntarily "testifying" against yourself.....

All of that,...would hinge on an employee.....implying that he is "O.K."....with camera surveillance. Silence,...would imply that very thing,...and I think many company legal departments are......holding their collective breath,....and seeing how many contractual drivers will mutter under their breath, shrug their shoulders,....and work with a camera facing them....

I would,.....in my Infinite Legal Wisdom,.......highly recommend every driver sign a Petition stating that the company does NOT have your permission to "View, Use, Sell, or in any way, Benefit"....your Personal image(picture/video)...
Give it to the Company,......and the Union.....That way it is on file with BOTH entities........

There may be a Large Legal issue in the future, regarding unwanted surveillance..........Be Proactive........Protect your Legal Rights.....

....(...Ahh...."Employment-At-Will"....employees already gave away their Rights....).........(..That's a Shame, my fellow Americans..)....
 
They might be trying to buy their way in with those duel facing camera's. Remember the rumor about the company going to the union about giving us a raise a few month's ago.... If it's true keep your money for my privacy....
I might need the pay raise. I’ve been pulling long box after long box lately. They gouge you out of a penny.
