Another slow period, and we're back to the usual crap with this company. Anyone else getting rode about "being more efficient"? It's like Pyle's trying to whittle things down to the bone to save a buck. I'm constantly on the very edge, flying around like a madman as it is, and all I get is "faster, faster". I'm just wondering if this is going on at other terminals or if other drivers are getting this treatment. For a place all about safety, they seem to try to find ways to put me in positions where I HAVE to drive like a nutcase, and it's getting pretty ridiculous, and it seems like it's never enough from dispatch's point of view...
 
All ltl freight companies push the drivers, keep up a steady and safe pace and you will have no issues.
remember to work effectively you have to feel comfortable during your shift, refer the pressure back onto the dispatch.
By pushing you he is trying to make his job easier.
 
Oh, I know that's what he's doing, just bugs me when I get feeling like my best isn't enough. I just wonder if these other terminals get on their driver's backs as hard as they do at ours...

Certainly. Full disclosure: I run line for Duie. We are paid by the hour for our trips rather than by the mile. We are given "up to" a certain set time for run times. Such as, four hours to get to A from B. All of our runs take less time to complete than they give us, however, people will make damn sure they take all the time they need or more. The slower you drive the more you make. It's not exactly a good way to get loads back in a reasonable fashion.

OK, now I understand but one other thing is what road drivers make when they are paid mileage. Ours are at just under $.60/mile and could feasibly make $36/hr when they're running. When you guys run it at an hourly rate, even with the extra time allotted, I would expect that you are not paid that well. Therefore, even with guys using all time allowed they company still pays less by the hour. No?
 
Never ever was questioned about my times in linehaul or p/d.
If you are delayed for any reason or take a break along the way central wants you to communicate by qualcomm so the time can be deducted. But remember there are drivers who will try to run under the times to earn brownie points and will make it hard on guys who drive at a steady pace and safely who take their breaks..

You are absolutely correct. The only time we make close to the same money as you is when we're on OT. Which is between $38-$39 an hour depending on what terminal you're out of.
 
I see New Penn guys on a regular basis. Our W-2's are on par for the hours worked.
Next time you are in construction or going 30mph in the snow, think hard about the mileage rate

I think its more your TM. I am in WC and nothing is different for the L/H guys for what I can see
 
Last time i looked, it seems there is high turnover on lh? What gives? Its the easiest driving position in the co.
