I heard it from a trainer that we at Fedex are getting rid of drivers in the switchers position and putting reg. guys in there. :shift:

What's a switcher? Is that what we call a spotter over here?

Spotter / Switcher / Hostler

In my experiences from the AF side, all the hostlers have been multi-purpose type workers. Back when I was the only one setting up for inbound I was still a dockworker but since I was the only hostler on duty I did that most of the time. When we weren't that busy or had several there I'd go up and break a trailer. Of course at AF we didn't have hostlers hooking linehaul sets as the Viking system had set up.

At many of the night time hubs like when I ran Des Moines (DSM) there would be road drivers helping hostlers out during the peak times, one of our city drivers in Kansas City (KCY) bid a hostling spot.

What drivers are they getting rid of. The hubs we go to use shuttle drivers to do the hostling. I take it a switchers position is the same thing as a hostler???

What is the definition of a reg. guy?

NO NO Switchers are the guys that spank road drivers when they have screwed up. If the get rid of them who's going to keep us in line?
