Got a call today from a old friend. He was telling me that look for in the next two years for meet and turns to start going away. That contractors would start taking them, and eventually company driver's would do nothing but night shuttle and hub runs.

I'm not saying it's true. Just relaying the info. This driver knows alot of people at home office. Anyone else heard anything on this line?

I wouldn't be surprised, if that were the plan. Personally, I think it would cost too much and damage any future hiring prospects. The EOLs around me can't keep road drivers and the ones they do have are looking for something else. The economy and convenience keeps them there. As for money, they'll still need drivers with hazmat and as a result, they'll continue to compete with companies that require that PITA endorsement. They'd have to pay contractors enough to compete with other companies for employees (benefits and all) and to run and maintain equipment. This is why ground is struggling to keep contractors now. They want more money and FedEx doesn't want to pay it. I don't think it would work, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried.

While I've always said that the last FxF employee to leave would be a city driver, I don't see it happening that soon simply because it wouldn't save THAT much $. No one is in pulling a set with a HM endorsement for $50k yr.
All those new drivers crossing our southern border, will do it for less that $50,000.

Ground contractors are already doing their own meets at one of our drop yards out in Virginia that we also have a huge meet as well. Makes sense instead of paying the truck stop fees.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they try this out in Knoxville TN too since I know ground does a meet at the pilot down the street

Freight meets at the same pilot

They have been meeting at this spot in va for a few years now

Watkins had contractors with hazmat endorsements doing city work. FedEx is going to do whatever the hell they want to do.

But all of this worrying about what may happen will make you old fast. We can't control it.
Trucking is changing for sure. The greedy owners only care about their next dollar. With the biggest union company gone i wouldn't be surprised that they pushing drivers like they did in the old days Thinking who is going to stop them. They float a little money to the politicians to help persuade certain rules. Plain out greed.

It started with a run that meets at roa around 730am and they have added some meet for ground since. They even meet on the yard on weekends. You just have to be there at the right times to see them.
Pay them 65 to 70 and yep they'll do it. 11 million illegals even 50 is a number to them. You may dismiss me but don't forget how upside down this world is
