I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me the length of time it takes to get a road driving job at Holland? I put an application in 3-20-07 (Chicago)and all I get in response when I check in every other week or so is "we haven't got the word to put someone yet". Already passed drug test, physical assesment test, no road test yet
My other question is why post jobs on a web site and not put anyone on? I have 23 years accident free driving, clear DAC report and MVR. Worked for Preston, Viking, UPS (seasonal), Overnite/UPSF. Could someone working at Holland shed some light on this for me?

Holland has always been really s lowww about putting a person on. Once approved you will be sent to an orientation on Monday nite in Holland MI. On Wednesday they send you out to the road. Not much you can do to speed up the hire process but keep calling.

Thanks so much sarcastic b for the information! I thought I was too old or something. 43 years old is still a pup to some people. I don't feel old. I already called them this morning so I'll wait a while to call again.
Again Thanks For the Input!

They hired me at 40 yrs old. Apply at all the terminals in Chicago area. You may want to go to the milwauki Wi terminal and the south bend terminal. I applied at 3. Went from toledo to cincinnati ohio. They have been putting on many drivers over the last 3 weeks. They are going to hire more.

I hope it happens if they hire more in Chicago.
To commute to Milwaukee or South Bend at $3.59 a gallon wouldn't be too practical, but I'll pray for Chicago to come through.
Thanks Again sarcastic b!

I had always herd holland and YRC liked older drivers because they had more experience. With all that you have you should get the job, just keep calling and letting them know you wont the job because if you get it your set.:1036316054:

One other thing going on is a shortage of equipment. If they don't have the tractors to drive they don't need more drivers to drive them. They took three tractors from us last week and they are starting five more new line haul men this week with three less tractors to use from our barn? The city ran out of tractors Monday morning and had to wait for road men to get in to have tractors to deliver inbound freight. Freight has picked up a bunch in the last month and I think they are a little overwhelmed right now. Hang in there and keep calling, they will get tired of you calling and put you on for a little relief. Good Luck!

I heard the terminal manager at Erie is looking for three city, a few are in your boat, waiting … waiting… waiting …and still waiting … Hang in there though something has gotta break loose soon.

You would think that would be the case, but I've applied at other companies and too much experience is not good either. They think you are going to want top dollar to start and that you the driver is set in your ways and won't conform to their way of doing business. That's where companies are so wrong! What are you going to do, this is the new hiring process now. No "driver shortage" that I can tell, just good drivers that had enough and probably got into something else.

Shortage of equipment. Yes that could slow you way down to get a driving job.
Thanks for that insight Benny Hill!

If you need a job, apply immediately at Memphis terminal. We need road and city drivers. Our outbound today started 90 loads behind. They had to lock up over a 1000 bills picked up yesterday. Outbound worked over 1200 bills last night, but ran out off trailers to load out on. Called me on my cell phone as I was heading home to offer me a 6th & 7th punch this weekend. I told them to hire somebody. USF Indy there has been a man down here from your barn all week. (Kevin) is all I know. Our TM is out on vacation. Benny we need some inbound down here. Has anybody heard the city-men may start running the road on weekends? GRIZZ

Grizz, That would be a hell of a commute from the suburbs of Chicago to work out of Memphis. I would love to get a job that quick. They advertised up here in the Chicago area, Joliet, etc. that they need people and here I sit 2 months and 5 days ago since I filled out an application. I don't know, thanks anyway for the dim glimmer of light. I don't think it is as urgent up here in the Windy to put people on.

grizz how many mtd loads do you guys work in albany ny we are getting straigt loads of them we pickup husqvarna for ny pa and its usually two trailers

Between Martin and Brownsville Tn. plants Hmes p/u about 20 loads a day. Most are p/ued by linehaul out of Me. I peddle that area (80) miles from Memphis. Makes it tough on our city operation to p/u these loads and get them back to Me to stripe. There's also an account across the street from MTD that we get Teknor, water hoses going up your way. 4 or 5 loads a day out of there. This MTD account is tough. Conway had under-cut us this spring, but only lasted 2 weeks. They even have a term in the area. Central Transport also couldn't hang. But if you read my previous post, it appears to be catching up with us in Me. Beermug I'm not kidding when I say if your record is good, you'll be working in 2 weeks. Not many good worker's left down here.GRIZZ

It sounds like memphis is booming were doing good in KN to but not 1200 bills a day good i say Holland can haul it all. And your right con-way and central cant hang.

grizz when we were redstar albany we handled around 500 inbound and 450 outbound plus broke about 250 bills from burlington vt platsburg ny andanother 100 quickstrip bills from syracuse ny now at holland were doing around 200 bills inbound and outbound working 17 18 men a day holland is a great company to work for they treat us old redstar men very well and we return the same have a safe and happy holiday

Grizz, Holland, MI has all of my information!
I'll be glad to hire on in Chicago and go down to Memphis to help out on the overflow, but I can't be a roving road driver too. I have a house that's not really portable. Thanks Again for the hope!
I do have a clean driving and criminal record, I don't know what else they want. Like Benny Hill said, they have a shortage of equipment problem and nothing for anyone to drive where he's at down in the Derby.
