FedEx Freight | Hope a salesman reads this

Wits End....don't be too hard on skippy....he IS speaking the truth. Every freaking word. It happens at my center, but I don't complain. I just accept it as the way it is. A year ago, I would care. After a critical written corrective action for BS, I changed what I cared about. If the redshirts change the times without calling, what do I care. If the Appt a missed delivery, what do I care. I love FedEx Freight, and am VERY professional. My customers are my first priority, but getting burned last year for caring too much changed what I prioritize. I see the "BIG" picture.....it is do my job, don't ask too many questions and cash the checks on friday.

amen cs I feel the same way. we were hired from the neck down. if u think you have a better way to do it keep it to yourself thats their motto. best to do what they want keep your mouth shut and cash the check.

Skippy is so right...its the way we have chose to do business......Fake numbers,,,, Fake appts,,Fake phone calls....Fake closing times....Not the kind of tools a good honest city driver needs out here,,,,

ya, glad to see they r weeding out the "bad" freight. now bottom guys are working three days a week. I left yrc for this??? I m thinkin it was a bad decision...this is just as big a joke as yrc..

Skipper,
I think it is guys like you that give us all a bad name. Maybe you should become a little more engaged with the company. You are probably one of those guys that comes to work moaning and only gets worse as the day goes on. Positivity is contagious, you should try it.
As for what is going on in your center, there may be some integrity issues involved, I can't say, I'm not in your center. Every center has some issues, none are immune to them. If the problem is as bad as you lead on, those causing the problem will be caught up to eventually.

I hope you as a fellow driver(city) are making an honest effort with the customers and not blowing off to them like you have done on this thread.

Yes, I have fun with the customers and am positive and honest with them, It sure makes a better day and you might be surprised what you do for the customer, results in what they do for you.

It is all about being positive from you, which breeds positive from others and makes the job more enjoyable. I work with guys just like you and they try to make everyone around them just as miserable.

Back to the original topic.
All the other carriers will be following suit to improve yield, by raising rates or shedding undesirable accounts, and when that happens we will be sitting good. Somebody has to take the lead and be the first. The others will follow, they always do. I've seen it many times in my 25 years in this industry.

Dead on IMO. Everybody had to go up on pricing, we were just one of the first. The market will be in a shock for a little while and then back to business.

witsend.... it's been going on at my SC since we were Viking. We have VERY SHARP pencils at this SC and lots of high efficiency erasers.

I missed a pick up a few years ago. A place I picked up all the time. They knew me and we got along great. They usually closed at 5, but they called the pickup in late and would wait. I couldn't get there until almost 5:45. They were gone. I asked dispatch about it the next day and he took a look. "Says they are an early closer and closed at 3:30." I told him that's a load of crap as I saw the shipping guy drive out of the driveway at 5:45. Just shrugged his shoulders.

That's the way it works. As long as the reports are done on time, and Snapshot gets offered a few sacrifices so they look like they are actually doing something, nobody rocks the boat. It's been that way at this SC for at least 15 years.

I would love to see the creative coding because of PT getting in 2 days late.

And.... the driver should get more engaged with the company? How about the other way around?

Too many low-ball rate-cutters like R&L, Vitran, Central, Roadrunner, NEMF, Averitt, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc...
If FedEx were smart, they'd just dump the LTL biz and concentrate on what they do best...which is parcel.
LTL was never really part of their plans when they bought Caliber.
Just so happened the late 90's and early-to-mid 2000's were the "golden years" of LTL freight...we'll never ever see those days again.
Too much competition now.
Too many moron drivers willing to buy pallet jacks, no overtime, run for less than .50 cpm, etc.
We just can't compete...

you will never get an honest answer from a sales person. some are required to sign affidavits so that they are held responsible for leaking any information that isn't supposed to be out yet. If it's an extremely sensitive issue like national merging with freight then I doubt you will get an honest answer. We were told by our sales manager at work that he had to sign an affidavit for no disclosure until it's announced in december. Not their fault
