The game is over they already allowed ABF to freeze to their contributions at current rates basically a pension cut they will never pay more than what their paying now just like YRC has no intention of ever increasing pension contributions ever again. Watch for UPS to end the pension too in the next few contracts they already cut the Corporate pension plan for non Union employees the Union will force the contract.

Central States will never be able to pay back the loan. You know it, we all know it. The question, which no union guy ever answers, is who made the pension pledge with the teamsters? Ask them for the bailout/ loan/ whatever. Who is them?
The only Promise any Pension made is the Pension Benefit Guaranty Fund. About 30 cents on the dollar. Corporate paid insurance, backed by the USA. Studies show it’s underfunded, and collapse if a large fund went broke.

HR397 is set up to put $3 billion into the Pension Rehab Bureau they will set up- PLUS “amounts necessary”. The USA will have to print money or borrow to do it.

Exactly. Defined Benefit Pension Plans have been getting gutted for over 30 years now. I can remember my parents and their friends worried about their pensions in the early 80's.

Could it be because Hoffa and Hall threw us under the bus by giving UPSF/Overnite a stand alone contract? By not fighting for a NMFA contract they took the easy way out. How can we expect companies to negotiate anything other than a hand crafted contract and not having to join in the MEPF?

Let's go way back to 2006 when Hoffa put Hall (Teamster UPS package director) in charge of the UPSF/Overnite freight negotiations instead of the Teamster national freight director Tyson Johnson. We all wondered why the switch? Was the fix in? Damn straight it was No NMFA and no MEPF.

Why would the men even have to ask the Teamsters to get them a NMFA contract ?

General freight already has the NMFA in place. Thats what we all fought for to get Overnite the protection of our contract

I doubt that any Overnite/UPSF workers asked the Teamsters to organize them and then to go and negotiate a whitepaper contract for them.

I'm just scratching my head as to why the carrot (NMFA contract) that the Teamsters have been dangeling in front of Overnite for years is now being replaced with a whitepaper contract now that UPS is involved.

Why haven’t you organized the non union carriers in your town? How many non union drivers do you talk to about signing cards every day? Remember unions are only as strong as their members, so many of your criticisms can easily fail at the feet of the members as well as the union leaders. Yrc is increasing pension contributions by 8% per year under the new contract.

Some funds such as CSPF due to there geographic location (Midwest) were more severely impacted by deregulation. The Midwest was more densely populated and heavily industrialize. Therefore there was a greater loss of contributions made on behalf of drivers. There is also some blame to put on fund managers, but mostly loss of workers.
