Since the company supposedly wants more $$ givebacks, how about finding just how much the non-union competition
is really paying there drivers. You might be surprised that we are not paid the most in the industry.

    Just a thought.

With the givebacks YRCW drivers are clearly making less than many drivers from other non-union companies. FedEx Freight comes to mind. I don't work for YRCW, but I would vote no on any more compensation givebacks if I had a vote. At what point does the amount they pay become too little to survive on?

You would still have to look at the total compensation package. Their wages are probably higher than a typical YRC employee, however, they do not have a pension, just the 401 which they must fund. Nor are they likely to have as good a health plan; unless things have changed since I "retired", you are also not paying for your plan. Just something to think about.

The only givebacks rumored involve wages...so far. If Wall Street can see the driver shortage problem, and we keep our pay UNDER the non-union competition, there will be no hope in sight. What good are bennies if you and your family can bring home more green from Con-Way or Fred-Ex?

Brother in law is a city driver in Chicago non union hourly and time and a half after 40. Most of the time all day friday is time and a half. 401k match. And pays about 50 bucks a week for his insurance. Must of the time he is home by 5pm and no weekends. Nice truck too. Makes YRC look like a **** job.

Respectfully, or maybe not so respectfully your mileage and or hourly rate may be close to union scale but you lag at least $10,000 a year in benefit contribution. You pay more in out of pocket medical expenses and can be fired because you look cross-eyed at a dispatcher or manager without recourse.

With all the influx of illegals coming into this country ie: Mexicans, Russians, Polish, etc. and then getting CDL's, eventually all jobs will be bottom feeder jobs! I hope to be retired before that happens.

    Non-union driver here:

Class B CDL: $21.57/hr + OT after 40 (class A makes about $2/hr more), company match 401k + profit sharing, 100% company paid benefits (I pay 0 premiums) 3 weeks paid vacation (one more year to go before I get 4 weeks), 3 sick/personal days, paid holidays, plus annual raises every year.

And best of all, I like my job and am proud to be an employee for my company.
