Accidents happen, but Please tell me it was a Contractor! I've got too much respect for you FX Freight guys.

Last week, a FX set of doubles pulled onto I465 straight onto the interstate and not using the acceleration lane. Group of motorcyclists trapped, couldn't get over. He ran over the lead one with both pups, killing him.

The kid was a 32 yr old USAF Reservist at Grissom. My Son deployed with the kid 5 times to the Middle East. At least he wasnt married. Half of Grissom AFB went to the funeral.

This one's close to home. FedEx gonna pay, for sure.

Hope I didn't ruin your forum, but this one really was preventable...

Horrible news for all involved. I can't find a news article or anything on it. That said, if it was a ground contractor then I think the Contractor will be on the hook.

I can't find anything on this either. I went through multiple indy news sites and searched through funerals associated with Grissom AFB and nothing.

I don't see why it matters if it was a contractor or FXF. That's the last thing I would care about if that hit this close to home.

I have friends that drive respectfully for FXF. I see Contractors run crazily across the West, almost causing accidents. That shapes my view.

Probably shouldn't have posted that part... But the kid's funeral was real. His name was Derrek Dimenco.

I wasn't questioning the validity of the story, I just didn't find anything on it. I just found it strange to prefer that it was caused by one division over another. The driving history/requirements to drive for FedEx are the same across the board. You can work for a contractor and still be terminated by FedEx. I saw it happen plenty of times at FedEx ground.

I shouldn't have even said it, it revealed my bias, and that's not why I posted. I thought there would be a police report online. Amazed that there isn't. Either indy Freight Division guys aren't on this site, or they haven't heard about it..

Now I wish I hadn't started this thread.

The reason I said Contractor is- I ran across Wyoming twice a week for 6 years straight. Normal people adjusted to the weather and road conditions. FedEx Ground Contractors drove on like it was dry road. It almost seemed like when trucks were being towed from the ditches, there was a 50-/50 chance it was a FedEx Contractor. When I heard that the accident was caused by a set of pups coming straight from the ramp to the driving lane, it reminded me that I've been passed in the acceleration lane by FedEx Contractors going from the ramp to the Left lane.

I've never witnessed FXF guys do those unsafe things...

Jimmy is right. Fedex Ground drivers drive like fools more often than not.

I'd say its a 70/30 chance it was a contractor. The contractors lack safety departments that would come down on them for preventables on things like hitting the dolly with the lead trailer while hooking or spilling a half gallon of diesel from an overfill. The contractors also don't pay that great or carry great benefits like FXF does, so for us FXF guys, we tend to think twice before jeopardizing our golden goose.

I know a guy in my town's FB group that is a ground linehaul driver. He says it's like the wild west.

Most of the new drivers in my barn are just accidents waiting to happen.

These threads are just stupid. Doesn't matter if it was a contractor or company driver really does it. Listen as long as there are chunks of iron flying down the highway accidents will happen and people will tragically be killed. Just hate this comparison between "drivers". Personally I think anyone who is on the freeway on a motorcycle is a tad insane in the first place. I know the fedex freight network spreads wide, but literally every year at least one person dies within my region on a motorcycle. I have been here 9 years.

Sorry for the loss! No news article and a FedEx truck would definitely make the news around Indianapolis! Think this is all :horseshit:! I'll be the one to say it! Yes we hire just about anyone and put them thru training anymore just to get numbers! Stay safe and yes I'm a dick I guess

I agree with ya. Back when I started you had to have a minimum of two years over the road experience and a minimum age of 25 even to be considered for the road...nowadays they’ll help you get your CDL and have you on the road in six months!!

This was Ryder's poicy far back as 1955, dad being a friend of the owner, I guess didn't hurt me being hired at 19.

I don't know how far back that is, but I understand their problem now . Nobody wants to do manual labor. People my age want to be GIVEN 6 figure salaries for a 9 to 5 with a big desk and a bigger chair. The others want to be celebrities or influencers. And everybody else can't pass a drug test. What options do they have?

The older guys are retiring because they're either tired of work or tired of the BS and new rules every other week. They may even be tired of new hazmat exams. You need asses in seats and it's getting harder to do.
