I so don't miss this dog and pony show of E-logging. I also don't miss trucking nor Averitt Express.
The trucking industry is in deep sh*t when it comes to drivers. Regulation such as this Elog nonsense. Between this; just another over regulation by government officials that don't know 5th gear from 5th wheel, who the hell wants to put themselves in this cesspool?
The industry doesn't want to pay it's drivers what they are worth given the crap they have to deal with. Never ending DOT physicals, roadside inspections, drivers and their endless in-vehicle distractions, cut-times, weather, working nights, drug screens, alcohol tests along with other harassments makes experienced drivers like myself say screw it. Not worth it.
Then there are endless ads trying to coerce drivers to come to work at endless companies saying that top pay of $0.42 a mile is top of the industry. What absolute fools they are. I wouldn't get out of bed for that. How many youngsters want to go through the BS involved to earn a paltry wage? Not many and therein lies the problem for the shortage that is getting worse every day.
Back in the 70's when I got into trucking it was a great job, a fun job...but not anymore. I despise the industry I once loved and am so glad to NOT be a part of it. 40 years was more than enough.
Happy Festivus Eve!!
