A Kansas City, Kan., police captain was killed in a shooting Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The officer, Capt. Robert (Dave) Melton, was shot at 2 p.m. at 22nd St. and Haskell Ave. in the city across the state line from Kansas City, Mo., said Kansas City Police Chief Terry Zeigler.
