August 15 - A crash on Highway 50 kills a father and his teenaged son. The crash happened early Tuesday morning two miles outside Strong City. The burned out and crushed cab of the semi sat on the side of the highway for hours. It was a gruesome reminder of the morning accident. Highway Patrol Troopers say a truck heading east crossed the center line and hit the west bound semi head on.
The four people in the truck were from Illinois and had been visiting family in Kansas. The 65 year old driver and his 16 year old son both died at the scene. A 50 year old woman and 11 year old girl were taken to area hospitals. The driver and passenger in the semi both escaped without injuries.
