And also don't forget the Republican party in Congress OK
And how could we forget the Republican Party,.......as they make themselves so endearable?

I was hoping to use my VA insurance to help me retire, but much to my disgust , Mr. Bush and the Republican led Congress took that away from me and most other veterans back in 2003. The VA coordinator gently informed a bunch of us veterans about this recently at a VA open house.

Nothing like a real quiet screwing to make your blood boil..........

Why can't you use your VA benefits? All veterans with at least (I think) 6 months active duty are eligible for health care in the VA system. When did this change, and I would check with the eligibility office at the Pittsburgh VA, they can set it straight, great hospital and good people there.

Thanks, Joe. My brother,....with 8 years Navy service, and I with 3 years Air Force service, ....went to a VA open house sponsored by the Pittsburgh VA at an auxiliary campus in Greensburg. What we found out was that .....very quietly,.....in 2003, the VA qualifier was changed to an income-based parameter, instead of a service-based one, like it used to be.

If you make roughly more than $30,000 a year, you are denied VA benefits, regardless of how long you served. This was a bill, sponsored in Congress,....I don't know who,..(.yet..)..and signed into law by President Bush in 2003......

Let's see,.......wasn't that about the height of the Iraqi war?.......just prior to President Bush landing on an aircraft carrier and pronouncing "Victory in Iraq" ?

I'd like to comment further, but I just broke the handle of my coffee cup by gripping it in anger.......

I think you were misled, maybe not I started using the VA in 07 and was told then that I would have a 6.00 copay for scripts and 20.00 for a specialist, since then my service connected rating went up to 100% and the copays disappeared. It may well be as you said, I know the law was changed so the VA can now bill private insurance and medicare. It has me curious now, I volunteer in my local VA, let me see what I can find out.

The first time I applied for VA benefits I was denied but told to keep trying because it is subject to change.
I tried again about a year ago and was then accepted. I didn't pursue it any further. I do know it is not free anymore for all veterans.

I know that there are copays for some, but as far as anything else I don't know. I know somebody that works in eligibility that can give me the straight scoop.

If you go to the Wilkes Barre VA chances are my wife drew your blood....

My younger brother with 8 years of Naval service, recently lost his job due to his former employer's failing health. Being 10 years younger than me, he still has dependent children at home. He figured he would use the VA care to tide him over as he transitioned to another job.

VA turned him down. Took two weeks to get the letter of denial. No explanation in the letter, but when he was at the open house with me, the benefits coordinator told us both that VA care is,. ..as of 2003,....income based. Both of us denied, although she told me to re-apply when I retire.

I do recall an acquaintance on my route...Vietnam veteran...who had told me that there were changes in the wind (this was years ago) and that he was fortunate enough to have heard of it and that he had to jump through hoops to maintain his benefits under the VA.
