ODFL | Layoff 3 today

Question? shouldn't they laid-off the full-time dock workers first? I got laid- off this morning. I was with ODFL for 22 years and was gone from ODFL for about 4 years. Got took off the pay roll not fired (long story nothing under my control I didn't do anything wrong) so now i came back in APRIL and from my understanding I had nothing to worry about my job was OK. I was working the dock when I came back in to get my hours so i thought everything was ok. PLUS I was just asked to be a driver trainer a well. JUST MY TWO CENTS THATS ALL

What region were you out of Outlaw

ain't going to happen. It'll continue to get worse the more the cheaters 'cheat'. Hate to be honest, but get ready for 'Democratic Socialism' as it's literally right around the corner. Funny how I did my taxes(ALWAYS make a big chunk back since I pay more for a refund) the other day. Wife and I are 'considered' middle class in NC....well, we are only getting HALF back(even with 2 kids) since we a) half to pay for this 'proxy war' with Russia, and b) all the 'migrants'(illegals) wanting free crap! I'm just happy if I can survive through this with a job I worked so hard to get. smh Looks like there won't be a 'middle class' within the next 5 years, unlike what the media is saying(DemoRATS are 'for' the middle class).
I'm trying to understand why you would want a big chunk back?
Why don't you adjust your withholding so you would get more per week on your check?
Then just take that extra and put it into a regular savings account at the least.
Why let the gov use your extra money all year for free?

Unreal that these massive companies, who 18mo ago couldn't hire anyone at gunpoint and now laying off, and thus ensuring that former employee NEVER comes back, and quite likely leaves the industry completely.

I always said there was no driver shortage.
Just a shortage of good paying class A jobs with good benefits.
This says it all

There have been peak times and slow times in the LTL world forever, nothing new here. Years ago Union jobs would typically keep short, tight, seniority lists and use casuals for the busy days/times that way keeping all the permanent men working regularly. Of course back then casuals were paid the same and accrued benefits as long as they worked enough days. Many guys preferred to work casual so there were always people available. Of course the tiered pay and lower pay for casuals killed that effective solution to manpower needs. Load gun, aim at foot, pull trigger. :duh:
But didn't the unions agree to those terms?

The shortage is of qualified drivers, not meaning just exp. Many CDL drivers continue to get tickets, preventable accident which deem them unworthy anymore. There is also the DOT Clearinghouse now taking large portions of drivers out for failed drug tests and alcohol tests( Idiots). In 2020 when it started 80K+ were put in the clearinghouse, no top company will touch these people even if they do the protocol to get back in line. Now if you go into the Clearinghouse they contact the state you live and have your CDL pulled. These nuclear verdicts by juries - your driver hit my car, I want money !! The lawyer now can see the driver was down for say 6 months for the drug test violation and you dare put him on the road ! Then add in the new tougher health standards for DOT med cards and that makes a large number of CDL drivers deemed not hirable or only work at the really bad companies.

Your hit the nail on the head, young man in my neighborhood said he was thinking about getting his CDL. I advised him to go check on being Truck Technician / Mechanic with CDL. More options in the future (next 30 year's) than just being driver.

Not really, the lazy azz members who won't take the time to vote.
Not the Union, the short sighted members themselves. See my other posts about about workers who voted bad stuff in because it didn't affect them.
A union IS it's members. So in fact the union did allow this. Union members are always saying we have a voice and a say. Well they used there say and voice when they voted for it. If they voted or as you to lazy to vote. You are fast to remind us working at non union shop that we have no voice because we are non union. Well hate to say it but suck it up because you had a voice and failed to us it.
