how is it that some companys get by with making drivers fill out logs on their own time, when the co. requires that you do it for them for their records. would that not be part of your job requirements. i can see it now, your filling out your log on your own time and you slip on some snow, water whatever and break a leg, arm or whatever, well we are not going to cover you as you were on your own time end of story.

if you ask the right question to the right person you will find that completing your log for change of duty, updating your 265, and completing your pre-trip before exiting the terminal is paid. However, this compensation is figured into the mileage pay for your trip. Now at the end of your day... on your dime

yeah i was kinda thinking the same thing, when ur fill your logs out, you should be sitting at a table, not in the snow, or weather either, kinda ruins the pages!

What about having to take drug tests. You show up at your start time ready to go and pedal your route and instead, you have to go **** in a cup, on your own time, before you get to start work. You also have to drive your own vehicle and use your own gas. Why shouldn't we get paid for that as well??? They always say " Your random drug test is DOT requirement" but why shouldn't I get paid to go and do it???

Because they can...

The excuse of being DOT requirement is insulting and ignorant. These tests are mandated by the DOT and are part of the cost of doing business. Thisinely managed organization uses this as an excuse for you to lose money...burn your own gas...and save them from puttig fiorth funds they will not show a return on...

But they have no problem insisting you watch the company propoganda videos and spend thousands of dollars in compensation to the employee as the do so.

I get paid for my trips to the **** palace...in ways that cost them much more than if they would have paid me up front and honest...I have no problem with recouping my lost time and wages...gas...at the company's expense.

These people are stupid...in more ways than one...

If ignorance is bliss...then these folks must be one happy bunch of SOBs.

Because it is voluntary. When I say voluntary, I mean the company volunteers it's drivers to this DOT drug screen. It is real easy for Conway to volunteer your time to get a pat on the back from the DOT. "See, our drivers are in compliance with the law".

So what I am saying is that this is a voluntary program and Conway signed up for it. That was the way it was a few years ago. I might be a mandatory thing now, I do not know. All I know is that when they started it, Conway volunteered "you" to take drug screens.

What the hell does an FAC closing on time have to do with being paid for a DOT required drug and alcohol screen?

I do my job to the best of my ability every day. It is what I am paid to do.

I have been around 'big' business my entire working career... paid my dues in the educational arena...acquired the paper...discovered long ago I didn't fit the 'mold'.

That being said...I am not out to screw the company. However the opposite is not necessarily true.

The absence of common sense in the finely managed concern is getting more assinine by the day. It will...in the end be their undoing. They have absolutely no measurable appreciation for the work we perform...unless it can be measured in dollars and cents.

To require an employee to submit to a screen on their own time and at their own expense is pathetic...and terribly dated. It is old school 60's managment tactics that went by the wayside eons ago...at least by company's on the cuting edge...you know...the progressive types...the pacesetters..the ones making a difference.

Unfortunately...we no longer fit that shoe...

We are followers...and even that can be questioned.

Perhaps some advice is needed here...before the post goes out of the way to deride another...some good old fashioned pondering may be the order of the day.
