An early morning incident near Perkins Road backed up traffic for hours on Interstate 10 Wednesday. Officials with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said an 18-wheeler blew a tire on I-10 Westbound just before 3:30 a.m., and when the driver pulled over he noticed a fire had started between his cab and the trailer.

The blaze was so intense firefighters were forced to let the fire burn itself out, rather than try to put it out themselves.

Authorities said the driver was not injured. Traffic was completely shut down for some time and the morning commute for downtown workers took more than hour than usual in many cases. The frustration had motorists wishing something could be done about the traffic.

"It's so frustrating until at times you feel like you want to pull your hair out, even though you don't have much, you know," said cab driver Arthur Williams.
