To be honest there isn't much difference between a LTL and a TL carrier anymore. Pretty much, YRC is contributing into both services. It all depends on how YRC wants to service their customers.
Cross-docking is what most trucking companies are all trying to contribute into now. It helps on the time consuming and cost on freight when performing inventory turns.
The problem with that from a union perspective is that a company doesn't need as many labor/dock hands to complete that type of work.
