Yellow | Medical Examiners Handbook Draws Clear Line Between Regs And Guidance

I had the symptoms. i'd wake up tired because I never could sleep well. I'd wake up with a dry throat. I would have nightmares. My wife would tell me, that at times, It sounded like I was gasping for air. I took the test and it came back positive. Saia paid for everything. The test, the machine, the monitoring, the regular supply changes.

I've got to tell you, that in my case, it was a game changer. I use the nasal mask, which just fits over the nose. It took just a couple of days to get used to wearing the small mask and now I don't even notice it. Because of the constant humidified nasal airflow, I don't have a dry throat, the nightmares are gone, and I don't gasp for air. I don't have any entanglement issues, with the hose. I sleep on my stomach, my right side, my left side, and never on my back. Also, while sleeping during the day, its hard to get the bedroom as dark as I like it, but, because of using the constant nasal airflow, I am able to pull the bedcovers over my head, which creates a pitch black atmosphere.

I wouldn't go back to sleeping without it.

That's incorrect . Many MedicalExaminers were basing it solely on BMI (body mass index). These charts are based on body measurements . Based on the charts almost every lineman from any division I or II college team through the pros would be considered morbidly obese and subject to a sleep study.

You are 100% correct. Concentra said because my BMI put me into the morbidly obese category and I was a male that I was to take a sleep study and only get a 6 month medical card. I had no other issues, yet Concentra pushed that diagnosis. I went to a private doctor and got my 2 year card the very next day without doing any sleep studies. It is 100% a scam!

Sounds like it does some good to some.
That's not a scam.
I just see some find ways to get around it.
Going to a family Dr. Where you can convince them of anything.

Drac.
I'm glad it has done you well. Sounds like it was rough going beforehand.

They get kickbacks and referrals fees some even own the sleep centers they refer drivers too unreal big scam!
The whole system has become so spread out and specialized.
Not really a scam.
(one of the reasons medical costs have skyrocketed. Money is made being in a certain field of medicine) General practioners are not rich Dr's unless they had tons of patients (regulars) that go in and out of their doors on a daily (monthly) basis.
We have to see a different Dr for every problem. A family Dr can only refer to a specialist.
I know that. I've been through it and am still going through it.
A huge pain in the arse. But that's the way it is nowadays.
Family Dr's are just referral specialists. And it's the only way insurance will pay for a specialist.
By referral.
If you know you have a problem that you family Dr can do nothing about you still have to see him (her) for a referral,
And a specialist will only see you by referral.
Viscous circle. And time consuming.

My family doc had my complete medical history and has been my doc for 19 years. I may or may not see the quack again at the clinic who sees me for 10 minutes and says I have a life threatening disorder.......,where's the scam? FMCSA NEVER produced any evidence that sleep apnea was tied to one crash, not one. I suppose the Walmart driver that killed the country singer had sleep apnea.....NOT. He made poor choices and was not properly rested before his shift. That is where fatigue issues lie. Drivers pushing the limits because of financial , regulatory or industry issues. The 14 hour clock and mileage pay are responsible for more crashes than sleep apnea had ever been proven to be. The member of FMCSA's medical review board was proven to have financial interests in sleep labs and cpap machines . OOIDA had several stories exposing it , I will see if I can dig them up

I'm not saying to go to the company Dr. I wouldn't either.
That is where it all goes wrong. Company Dr's. Scam? Probably not. Company Dr does what the company tells him they want. Sleep tests. Personal Dr won't do it.
I've been seeing mine 20 years also. I wouldn't go anywhere else. But the emergency room.
