The U.S. Border Patrol’s Laredo Sector recently announced that more than 800 truck drivers have lost their Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) for good as part of the “Texas Hold’Em” program.

On November 4, 2022, Laredo Sector announced that 808 CDLs have been cancelled since the beginning of the Texas Hold’Em initiative.

Officials said that of those 808 CDL cancellations, 605 were cancelled due to human smuggling cases, and 203 were cancelled due to narcotic smuggling cases.

In Fiscal Year 2022, Laredo Sector successfully cancelled 45 CDLs with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the agency said.

The Texas Hold’ Em initiative was launched in June 2008 “as a joint multi-agency enforcement effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety and the United States Border Patrol to improve border security by implementing consequences on commercial drivers convicted of human and/or narcotic smuggling.”

The program uses existing state laws to permanently revoke the CDL of any person who is convicted of felony smuggling transportation charges while operating a commercial motor vehicle.

Cancelling them won’t solve much. Most border crossing regulars got their’s under the “bridge” anyway.
