Gordon Food Service has announced that they will be building a new facility in Douglasville, bringing 200 jobs to the area within three years. The company, which is based in Wyoming, Mich., announced in a July 17 press release that a 260,000-square-foot facility will be built near in the Riverside West Business Park. Construction will begin this summer and the facility is expected to be operational in summer 2014. The distribution center will employ approximately 200 people within three years.

Upon completion of the project, the company will consolidate the warehouse operations of its 110,000-square-foot facility in Greenville, S.C. into the new building. The Greenville facility is operating at maximum capacity and company officials determined it was necessary to expand its distribution network. They determined Douglasville would the best location to meet the needs of the company's growing customer base in the Southeast.

Gordon Food Service employees impacted by this change will be offered opportunities at the new facility. This transition is expected to be complete by fall 2014.
