I do not know of any of the non-union gigs that pay an 8 hour guarantee. Most of our 4-hour Casuals are College and it works out well for them.

No dues or 300.00 to join the union. Part time guy sees the money the drivers & full time help make with the benefits & decide this life is for them. ABF part time makes 14.00 an hour, pays 300.00 to join & 60.00 per month dues. Who wins the recruiting war for qualified people or people without CDL's but have a interest in this business? Besides with Dayton, no restriction on PT ours worked in a day. PT dock person works 3 or 4 days a week @ 8 to 12 hours a day with a 3 or 4 day weekend. Work 3 to 4 days a week PT & have the rest of the week off. Where do I sign? von.

This is like reasoning that fast-food work is a good way to make a living because you don't need a college degree, and you can easily switch employers if you don't like the working conditions.

That is just it. Part time work. Maybe the PT worker wants PT & not a full time job. Your personal life can & will decide for you. FT or PT. What suits your lifestyle? If I could work 10 to 12 hours a day & work a 3 day week I would take the rest of the week off & enjoy life. Where do I sign? What makes part time? The hours or number of days worked? And on the 4th day he played a round of golf. And on the 5th day he went fishing. On the 6th day he went to the casino to gamble. And on the 7th day he went to church & gave 10% of his winnings & did his laundry.

You will qualify for food, and nightly motel vouchers from charity organizations. And, you don't need to save for retirement because you will die early from poor nutrition and lack of health-care … the advantages of part-time employment go on and on.

Hey look guys, I found this affordable 1 bedroom apartments available near the 805 terminal. It's a little far to walk, but I'm sure those part-timers could take the bus or something. Don't let the outside appearance fool you – it was recently gutted by fire, so of course it has been completely renovated inside since then. At only $1500 a month a YRC Freight part-timer would have plenty of disposable income to pursue what ever leisure time activities he chooses – right?

1500 a month? Sears has some really nice tents. Camping @ a KOA with a monthly rent of say 700 or 800 per month with a pool, shuffleboard, free showers, & hook up for your lights is really a great deal. And no gang banger to worry about burning down or blowing up you residence while they cook the meth. And the owners of a KOA always patrol to protect their income source. A great deal @ a low price.

If the company is allowed to fill vacant full-time positions with cartage, and part-time employees they won't have any incentive to improve wages and working conditions for the remaining full-time employees.

BTW, the two part-time dock workers hired so far were approved by the Local Union.

Copies of what we voted for are available online to anyone that wants to read them. If you are smart enough to figure out how to post this comment then you are smart enough to copy and paste proof that we did in fact vote to allow part time employees to be hired off the street.

Hired two guys for the city from Wilson trucking and both of them quit by weeks end. Told the TM you work the hell out us with OT and the end of the month is friday and 10 drivers will be out of hours guys before noon this friday..... **** poor planning I got to shut it down 12:00 friday don't want to disturb the safety karma gods.......

our casuals can work 50 plus hours on the dock. background checks that take so long aren't filtering out charges, incarcerations and felonies, including assaults. neither of the most recent hires has a drivers license.
