Nonmechanic Car Fixing Thread

You getting any funny smells from it, like hot wires or mouse poop? They like to nest in there in winters.
I have found nuts from squirrels or chipmunk on another car I had. On top of the engine. Car was running rough. Wires were loose from them climbing on them.

The stench in my car is from my trunk where the fishing stuff is. I don't think mice even want to get anywhere near that.

Anyways. 20 minutes into my ride to work the 30A fuse blew. I didn't need the portable but tested it......fail....Back to figuring how to take the whole dash out.

Blowing a 30a fuse, you definitely have a short, not an (open circuit)
using a higher fuse can melt your wire harness or maybe start a fire.
I assume you have checked on utube, at times they have a good tip on disasembling different jobs.

What year is the Malibu?
Remove the glovebox and see if you can see the fan.
There should be “skid plates” further under the dash that can be removed to get access to fan.

That is something I was trying to figure. If I cold get the glove box out...I could see in pretty good.
I did remove the center piece with radio and fan control but you can't see much past the rear of the radio..the wires go trough a narrow opening and it is inaccessible from radio area.
It is 2001.

The airbag has a nice cutout above the glove box. If the engineers had any care for the consumer they would've made one in the center to get at stuff from the top. The airbag is also a concern. My luck will have it blow up in my face and knock my teeth out or break my nose or neck.

Disconnect battery before starting under dash.

Those are awesome. Very helpful. Doesn't look to bad at all.....I think I'll need to buy a 5.5mm socket. .

2000 Saturn LS1 Blower Motor Resistor- - - -
What A Wonderful, Highly Creative Access (acceptable TB statement [actual description disallowed])- - -
After safely removing Glove/Courtesy Box and destroying pointless Supporting Cross Member Structure (which didn't actually serve supporting purpose since factory screws are the support) to facilitate access to Blower Motor Housing whilst at odd angle of "Laying" on Shoulders with hips supported by Legs on seat and accessing Components in a confined area to Right to adequately secure access of Resistor whilst attempting no Injury to "Blower Motor Housing". Failure at "No Injury To Blower Motor Housing" as Control Arm for Gate (For Recycle/Open Air Intake) destroyed due to accelerated negative attitude after failing to process "Take A Break" mode due to complexity of access angle requirement (didn't wanna reacquire position).
Successful Completion. If Resistor EVER fails again, no Motor Speed above 2 and I'll live w/it.
CHEERS!!

I used both clips above and I got it out. And the plug does have power. So I guess it doesn't need a resistor. Lights up my tester. So I'll be ordering a blower motor tonight. AutoZone might have it in tomorrow. But it will be in by Saturday. Thanks guys.
And CK.....I did have to do some acrobatics to get the rear screw out. Felt some muscles pulling a bit twisting around feet in air and upside down for that. Plug made me nervous too...little plastic junk breaks easy...then I have to play electrician which I also am not.

It's rare when the resistor will blow a fuse, it's primary function controls motor speed.

The fuse blew using a portable defrost which plugged into cigarette lighter. It sits on the dash. I bought it for a quick fix but it must be take more power than the lighter wants to put out.
