ODFL | Old Dominion’s tonnage turns positive in Q2

lag behind peers , because OD does not want oversized easy to damage freight , but apparently SAIA does

OD won’t haul freight for practice. They only want freight they can make their desired level of profit on. Pretty smart. That’s one of the downsides of working for Estes. Since they’re a private company we never really know exactly how much they are making and what the margin is. More upside than down, but I worked for way too many years for companies that had to put out quarterly numbers. I get a little unnerved sometimes.

On the other hand Estes only has to merely make enough profit to keep the doors open, instead of having to satisfy shareholders with a thousand different metrics of improved performance every quarter.
