Old Dominion posts industry record sub-70% OR in Q2

A lot of that low OR right now is fuel surcharges, every shipment we handle has it's own surcharge tacked on, unlike a truckload carrier that say gets a 5% fuel surcharge for the entire trailer load LTL carriers get that surcharge for every shipment in that trailer. Actually the higher fuel prices are, the more OD makes. If you hear upper management cry about fuel costs, its just lip service. $2 a gallon fuel would be a disaster profitably wise.

there is a sweet spot for every carrier, right now shipper are dying with fuel surcharge, but b/4 it went off the deep end most shipper just considered it part of business.

Wrong!
Up to a point, it's less expensive to pay overtime than to hire employees. New employees get health care, vacations and holidays.
We are talking OD..They would rather hire and pay for new employees instead paying you that hour of OT..They are not joking around.Smaller Terminals you will see pay it and work there employees if they get in a bind .But,the breakbulks you will not see it..Been around long enough to say they are not going to give you any OT.

Our dispatchers and dock supervisors start getting the 1000 stare when anyone breaks 46.5
