One person died in a two truck crash in Virginia on Friday morning, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).

The crash occurred on I-64 near the Bowers Hill Interchange in Chesapeake.

VSP says that a tractor trailer driver parked on the right closed shoulder of the interstate and was asleep in the truck when the crash occurred.

A second semi truck traveling east on I-64 toward I-664 north went off the road and struck the parked truck from the rear.

VSP confirmed one person was killed in the crash.

This is a developing story.

Heavy traffic backups have been reported in the area.

Due to a crash on I-64 east at exit 299A (I-264) near Bowers Hill Interchange @AboutChesapeake, I-64 east is closed. Motorists can expect delays. A detour is in place at exit 297 (Military Highway). #hrtraffic https://t.co/gyTvhXEmuV
