TForce | opening new terminals

What is in store for UPGF to open terminals in the future in areas that are peddled to in excess of 60 miles?

Was the company at one time interested in placing terminals in cities that Fedex had pre-existing centers?

I think everything is on hold for now in this economy. If they do anything it would close terminals and consolidate terminals.

Anybody know if they shown any growth? Out of all the large LTL carriers out there, I'm surprised one as large as they are can keep out of the spotlight........ I mean you hardly hear anything about the LTL side of UPS, I mean good or bad. I was just wondering.... Thanks for any info or thoughts......

In my opinion, starting new terminals has got to be a budget issue.
UPS is still dragging their feet on re-branding all the former Overnite, and Motor Cargo equipment.

By now I think ups won't be re branding old equipment only replacing it with new equipment with ups branding. I have noticed more upsf equipment in our yard lately.

From what I understand, They are junking all of the old trailers except the 26- 4000 5000 series trailers. At least pups that is. They take the trailer to the junkyard and crush them and document each one. I have noticed a few of the 4000 5000 series trailers with no overnite stickers. Just the trailer numbers like on the new UPGF trailers.

Oh my yes UPS is famous for junking all of their old equipment.
Their Brown cars, parcel Vans are custom built, after they run the life out of them, and can no longer rebuild them.
They part them out and junk what remains.

A lot of trucking companies wholesales their old stuff to brokers.
But you will never be able to buy anything that UPS has ever owned after they are done with it.

So it stands to reason they may do the same with all the Overnite & Motor Cargo stuff.

Since we are running way off of topic here.. HAHA!! I don't think they will be purchasing anything in the near future.

Oh my yes my bad getting off topic is a (TB) no-no.
Yes I agree with you goosen1 the way the economy is going I don't see to many LTL trucking companies expanding in the near future.
Opening another terminal would be a major investment.
More than likely UPS would continue Overnite's practice of transferring freight to an area carrier in the places they don't have trucking terminals.

The only other option would be to convert the UPS parcel hubs into an LTL terminal.
However that would also be a great expense, as well as a hassle working freight with parcel,in my opinion.

Let not forget the zone option that they have been using in the upper peninsula of Michigan and other areas around the country.

I really don't think that UPS will ever convert their places into docks for the freight division.

I will use this as an example; We are unloading a trailer that has Haz-mat on it and it's leaking all over the trailer. They shut down the whole building because of our "Loading Techniques".

They will need to shut down everything including the parcel division. Corporate UPS would be P.O.ed beyond belief!!! That means delaying our drivers and most important their drivers. Am I right or am I wrong???

[/quote]Thats the best one I've heard lately. Changed all runs from Tx to Ca from 2 day to 3 day, heck we have 2 day service from most parts of Tx to Springdale, Ar........seems to me that we might be going backwards not forwards.

I know of a few areas they tried to changed from one day lanes to two and it caused ups to lose customers. Those lanes went back to one day a few days after the loss of customers to get them back. At cms gaf used to be a one day now its two.
