Yellow | Protect The Dock Only Teamster Brothers and Sisters On The Change of Operations!

Eh.
Never thought much beyond the work.
Politics. Could not care less.
I was out to feed our family and pay the bills.
I knew my place and didn't over think it.
It's just a job. And I could have found another.
But I stayed. I know some who left and found success and happiness.
That's what it's all about.
If it makes you miserable. Find something else.
(more lights please). That's for someone else.
Have a good day all...
Thanks for stopping by, Ted. Lights have been good.

As for the rest of your post, don’t waste the keyboard space. The poster you are responding to was born miserable.

This isn't sports. But the company would like it that way.
They expect 60 year old guys to run like guys in their 20's.
And would rather ditch seniority rules to do just that. Get rid of older guys.

We work till we are into our 60's.
How much do we bring to the table?
Brady is an old man at 43.
He's the exception.
How many make it that long?
So they do how many years and the season isn't all year.
We work all year every year...
And 43 isn't even considered anywhere near finished.
Still another 20 years or more to keep beating our bodies and brains.

Without a good line many stars would never be stars.
If your analogy was correct, linemen would make what the QB makes.
I'm 60, if I actually worked as hard as our 20 something year olds they would fire me.
Work smarter...not harder.

Somebody started in MA. Worked in NJ.
And retired to SC.

Is this you?
Multiple usernames.
Brother is a Jesuit priest.
Was in Air Force.
Maybe Vietnam vet.
Va hospitals are part of it.
My friend 2631.
Likes to stir the pot.
Red Star.
ABF.

But not Yellow.
And not FedEx.

Some members post with things which seem to be his.
I could be wrong. No doubt about that. It's happened before that I'm wrong, believe it or not.
Lol.
Not you?
Post in thread 'Beware the taxpayer bailout of underfunded Teamsters pension plans' https://www.truckingboards.com/bb/t...ded-teamsters-pension-plans.35106/post-489334
Never heard of him...

I've been out of the game for 4 years. And I'm glad I am.
I had a cdl. Could not pass the eye exam so it was dock for me.
That was 3 years into my employment at R.
We all got paid the same rate.
I have a question.
To those blubbering about pay rates and thinking drivers should be paid more which I think is bs.
Should the clerks in the office get paid less too because they don't have a cdl
?
We all were paid the same rate. Period.
That us the only fair way. I don't know or follow what's going on.
Dock work is dangerous. Small docks and 13 lifts running around.
Pfft. Drivers. I was both a driver and dock. I never even considered anyone get paid more or less. Everyone was equal.
Nuff said.
Probably already made someone angry. Not my intention.
But working on the dock is no picnic.
Can't believe you Mystic, give you LEDs now you're wanting more pay.

The reason all the young folks coming in are damaging freight is because we who know how to work are allowing it. We need to not let these so called trainers that were never trained, train the new guys as well. Maybe if we who know cares a bit we would tell these trainers to get off the phone and better yet we should be the ones to train them and I bet this will make a HUGE difference. We serve the costumers and give the costumer satisfaction, they will keep making business with us and get new costumers to try us again. As long as we keep damaging freight we will keep seeing all these return freight being shipped through us and not actual freight. If WE can TRY just a bit, tell them to stack it like they will be the ones to deliver it. Maybe the company will have more cash flow to be able to have better contracts.

Can't get bill count training ...unproductive dock hours..

Ya get an iPhone this year for $1000 and next year it's $2000 and the next it's $3000....and ya just gotta have it.
Or maybe it's a Sony Playstation or XBox.,.,...and ya just gotta keep up with the Joneses.......but ya got no money for it ...so ya keep taking loans and finding scams and people to ripoff........that's what I see with Yellow

It's too big.....ya can't do it.

New Penn was pretty simple.
They made real money.

It's so big here and the behavior is bound to fail.

You have a good attitude.
I'm not trying to insult you here.

But when this company gets cash.
The flow goes into a million dumb things to try and make them look like they're doing something.
Maybe a new safety program or system.
Publicity nonsense.
All kinds of poster crap relating to employee relations.
Human resources needs it's budget destroyed.
But good luck with that. It's trendy and hooked up with law and politics...and the money goes right out the window.
It's not about moving freight.
It's about goofy crap.
Too many departments.
You have a union and labor VP's.
No need for all the nonsense.
But it looks good to all big business...so they waste tons on it.,...appearance.
They need all the latest toys...so they think...but can't afford it.
Basic is all they can afford...but that's the farthest thing from their plans.
They need the latest technology..
Which will never cease to be too expensive for them.
They took on more than they can chew buying all these companies.
You are right I’ve seen it when I was in docks. They would hire more supervisors to just be face timing their gf or wife and not doing their job, well at least what I saw from some. Other didn’t have no knowledge and try to tell us what to do just to look like they were doing something.

Agreed, and to put it in perspective, when I started at Yellow Portland Oregon,(Por) in 1990, anybody who was hired had to be driver qualified- yeah, and with a doubles/ triples endorsement. Then as time went on, a lot more people were hired who were not driver qualified; but anybody who lost the ability to drive for any reason was only paid 9 (yeah that’s nine) cents an hour less than they were before! That should be what everybody who’s still working should be shooting for; bringing the dock guys pay up and reducing the penalty a driver pays when they can no longer drive- because it can happen at any time, whether you think so or not. And unless it’s in writing in the contract, don’t think that the company won’t hesitate to drop you to bottom dock pay if you have to give up your CDL. Just something to think about as the next contract approaches.

First, you are keeping the pay rate in somebody else's hands.
You are allowing the few to decide the worth of each.
You are also allowing them the power to fire.
Totally leaving that in somebody else's hands.

Your execs don't do that so much.
Investers who have so much money that they can buy every aspect of what affects their profits and power, do not do that.

They take control in every way they can.

The union system is to keep that in check.
To say...no...we are labor...and we are all valuable..and we are only as strong as our weakest.

So the point is not to bring driver pay down by working the dock...but to bring dock pay up to top pay because many city drivers do dock work right next to dock pay guys.
And now they bring in road to do the same with UE.
Although mechanics are Teamsters....they do no freight moving, therefore they can have their own rate imo.
Brining that pay up should also make it so that if guys get sick of driving schedules, that they too, should be able to bid dock-only.
Cuba has universal wages, everyone gets paid the same. Universal pay is a hallmark of communism. Equal pay for unequal work.
The USSR & Communist China did the same, college professors were paid the same as a custodian.
Fails 100% of the time, offers no incentive to improve ones status in life.
The stagnation destroys any finished product or service.
Modern day unions/Socialist Democrats in America love this concept.

And put you at the bottom of the the dock only list because that wouldn't be fair to the guy who didn't want or couldn't get a CDL

So you’re saying there shouldn’t be a wage progression even though it’s provided for in the contract?
No there should not. There should be a 30 consecutive day probationary period. To demonstrate that the new hire has the necessary skills. If so, on day 31 FULL CONTRACT WAGES. Either you can do the job or you can’t. If you can, you should be paid the same as ANY other employee performing the same job.
FYI Every job class contributes equally.

It used to be that way. I forget when they went to the progression, maybe late 80's.

Their were some white paper contracts up in the Nortwest with Yellow Forwarding around that time period.
Never heard of cutting pay in the NMFA.
Had a few drivers over the years some how get a DUI .
They were first call after all 10% board was exhausted

Only white paper contracts I ever heard of were with some of the smaller regionals in the area- they didn’t negotiate, just waited until it was done and said “ me too.” If anybody got a DUI, they kept their bid, unless they lost their license. If they could no longer drive, then they’d lose the nine cents per hour.

Were you employed their when everything was inbound on the rail ?
