Hey whats up guys. Been reading the forums the past couple wks and just joined today. Learned a lot about the company from these threads and look foward to joing the team, hopefully. I just got out of cdl school and am 27 yrs old. I did the interview road test and drug test already for odfl. Completed the onboard online. Pretty much in Just waiting for the background check to go through.
On the app it asked if i ever got a dwi. In july 2010 i got a driving after underage drinking ticket. I was 20 yrs old. I blew under a .07 so i didnt get an adult dwi. I dont know if the ticket i got is a dwi or not? I didnt put this down on the app because it asks for tickets within the past 7 years and this was later than 7 yrs and im not sure if this counts. It doesnt count as a prior first dwi so i dont know. will this hurt my chances?

Most likely will if you didn't write it down in application .You would have been better off opening up that bag when you filled out application. They always will find out.Wishing the best.

Thanks for the reply guys! Im heading to the tm right now to drop of my hazmat paper work. Do you think i should let him know the situation? I dknt want them thinking i lied because everywhere i checked it says its not a prior dwi. I live in nj by the way where its not criminal.

If it's not on your record it didn't happen.

In new jersey, a dwi is not criminal so it wouldnt show up on my criminal background but this was almost 8 yrs ago and i could only get my mvr for the last 5 yrs and it was not on that. I asked around different lawyers and they told me that the underage driving after drinking is not a dwi....

What did the Term Manager say??

It is illegal for anyone under age 21 to drive after drinking any alcohol in all US states.

I think his ODFL application is toast. I believe the gentleman got escorted to the front door by the TM

Ultimately, this is sad. Here we have a young fellow wanting to enter the LTL field...the likes of which we are NOT seeing in this industry anymore, and he quite possibly got turned down, even though he gave accurate information. I’d like to know how this story turned out.

And that why I tell kids today. The choices you make today could affect you the rest of your life.Just shows that trucking schools are just out to take your money. The school should have told him.Sad Deal for sure.

Gary m , do you have an update on how everything turned out?

For the record.I got hired with a 12 year old DUI.The TM was a friend but I'm pretty sure we discussed it and decided to be up front about it.

On a related topic we had a guy go through the OD truck school.Got his license.Got a DUI within a few months. They didn't let him go right away.Which bothered me.But they did eventually. What a waste.

Yes, they will hire with a prior DUI, as long as it is past a certain designated time frame (5 years maybe). More than 1, not likely. Tell the manager ASAP about your situation and why you omitted it. Since it was beyond the time frame they look for, and since it might not be considered DUI, then very well might be in the clear. I wouldn't be surprised if they continued with the hiring process - I'd be more surprised if they didn't. Good luck.
