Estes | rail use

Truck to rail is something that has been done since about the 50's Its not a new idea. The Alphabet Route offered Trailer service to and from Chicago in a faster time than it took to physically drive there.

Union Pacific has a awful lot of container trains stacking around Chicago. Each a mile give or take with 400 boxes. Probably 30 to 50 of them. Sometimes they hold where I am and idle off their fuel for as long as 10 days.

Must be nice to be trucking and have 10 days to sit and party before a delivery without dispatchers breaking balls.

Back in the early 60s, the rail hauled Ryder's empties from Miami back to Jax free.
The company paid Jax drivers 3 trips each week who ran a Miami bid to stay home.
This lasted about 2 months.
They claimed this was savings by not having the equipment tied up.

Miami has a Autotrain to Lorton Va, the only other train that competes with that East Coast Scheduling is the Tropicana Juice Train which usually has about 5 to 7 engines up front and a couple in middle or back. Extreme horses to hustle the stuff to jersey, fresh squeezed.

Snake Eyes was trying to tell you Estes guys that he is better than you because he works for a company that has a contract that covers rail use.

Estes doesn’t lay off linehaul drivers and then use the rail like the union outfits. Estes uses the rail when they are too busy to have drivers on them.

It’s sad that the union guys need language in a contract to prevent getting screwed by something like that. Then it is also sad that they can’t comprehend that a non union company could do it, but doesn’t because they treat the employees like humans.

I dont make any difference between Union and Non Union, however I recognize that both are equally abused and teased without too many abusing.

Sometimes those lessons were paid for in blood.

They probably saved on mirror replacement also?
