I think I know the answer to this but want everyone's opinion...Do I have to attend any "Safety Training" conducted by a "Brother Teamster" ? I don't believe some of our "Trainers" at 653 are qualified to be a "Trainer"

Personally I don't like the idea of Teamsters telling other Teamsters what to do. Point this out to the and he will run to the boss. Then the boss will direct you to attend and then just grin and bear it.
Never went to those types of meeting at 120. Told the so called "Trainer" if he had a frekin problem with it then go cry to your handler!
Amaz'in! Nobody ever wanted to call me in the office for a pow-wow!

Now that the trainer can & will likely report anything you say during your session, I would demand a BA, Steward, or qualified Teamster official be present to protect your Weingarten Rights. No Union presence during the session, no conversation from me. Not one single word should be spoken until your union representative arrives. von.
I see so much value in having our crew be safety trainers as specialists in what we do. This instead of a management safety man that is measured as much on how much discipline he issues as how few accidents and injuries we have. Would be great to figure out a way make this work. Really seems like the company wants to push safety now...we should help them do it. If teamster to teamster doesn't work what does?

If the "Safety Trainer" is a 3 or 4 million man (and we got several of them at my barn) I got no problem talking with him...he's got more miles than me (although I am not that far away from 3 million myself) and I might really learn something from him. My problem is the "Safety Trainers" at my barn have had accidents and gotten hurt on the job so that qualifies them to be "Safety Trainers" ??? I don't think so !!! Also ABFer had a good point...I don't know if we get paid for listening to them or not....gotta check on that.
Congrats on the impressive safety streak. I understand your point about the safety trainers actually being qualified. It would make sense that the safety folks spend their time with new hires and drivers with repeat problems and let the cream of the crop just roll on.
