SAIA | Saia CDL Academy

Id check out a tech school that offers it. A lot of states will pay for you to attend. Then you don't have to sign a contract with said trucking company that you will stay with them for ever how long. If you do leave and the company trained you before contract is up they take that training out of your last pay check.

At Duie Pyle, the driving school is open to employees only. Think you have to start on the dock or in a non cdl truck. Guessing at least a year in either first.

States only pay if you're on unemployment and meet the requirements they stipulate. It's not cheap either. CDL schools cost about 7k now, with no guarantees of passing and no guarantee of a job if you do pass.

I'd recommend the opposite and let a company pay for it. A year isn't that long and if you decide to not stay, you pay for it. You'd be paying it you went and did it on your own so no harm no foul.

There's also no guarantee that a company like saia would take somebody with a CDL and no experience. I went to FedEx to get my CDL and I have no regrets. Guaranteed a good job with them upon completion and they paid me to train and get my license. That year went by quick.

I was on unemployment when i went. I didn't know nothing except the company i thought id retire from because i loved it had a mass lay off and changed my plans and total trajectory. Thanks for that info i didn't realize that. Id go with a company as well knowing that.
