Five Teamster union trucks were on the Silver Bridge when it collapsed. McLean, Transcon, Hennis and two Roadway. 5 of the 10 Teamsters died on this day........40 years ago. If I'm not mistaken most or all of them were members of my local. May god rest the souls of those that lost their life on that day.

I know it's been awhile but I'm sure some of the drivers on this forum remember this terrible accident. DS.

Incredible , Thanks for posting this. I don't remember this happening but, it is a stark reminder of the danger in our industry. God Bless the families of this tragedy.

I never crossed the bridge they replaced that one with that the thought did not enter my mind about it falling. I was 18 years old when it fell and remember hearing the news reports about it and reading about it in the papers. I was in school with several kids who's fathers were drivers and it shook us up pretty bad. Fortunately none of them were on it.

every time i go to the casino in newell wv i think of that disaster. i crossed it yesterday and it crossed my mind again as i was making the crossing. off course the bridge is reduced to 10 tons now but you get a good chance to check out all the coats of paint on top of those rusty bolts.

i c the double diamond in the photo and that is who i worked for.
