ABF | Stupid letters of discipline

I agree...... Let them explain to amazon the reason we couldn't make the delivery is you have trees on your street....

Starting to look like the Big R all over again . Am i right GO40? You know, "hey thanks for all the extra that you did to get that delivery off, by the way, here's your letter for hitting a tree branch" or how about the guy who got hurt when the strap on the trailer door broke and got a letter for "improper pre-trip inspection" he should have noticed it during his pre-trip inspection. Here comes the chicken s**t letters!!!!

Any pre-trip that is less than 20 or 30 minutes long is an insufficient pre-trip, just ask the DOT.

And does this mean that you are to refuse to take a trailer that has a compromised door strap? What about one with rollers missing in the door for weeks on end? Or a malfunctioning liftgate that has been written up for weeks?

I'm guilty of letting the small things go. I will have to start making sure everything is right. The old tm was good with the workers ,as you know ABFer.

He was a good guy, hated to see him go. But you know the odds of having two good managers in a lifetime aren't good let alone having two in a row. Managers should be required to take at least some psychology classes. So many of them have no idea how to get the best out of their workers.

I don't think many of them even think to ask themselves how they can be better at what they do or gain the respect of their workers.

When I was young I had a boss/owner that I worked for who had majored in psychology. He could con the fur coat off an Eskimo.

Most of the young ones nowadays have a mysterious need to prove to themselves, daily, that they're the boss. Especially if they don't quite understand freight. Then it's "Their way is the only way",.....because they are....."Boss"....whether it works, or not. Many of them think the only reason we have jobs in freight is so we can stand around and drink coffee,...........we need their..."guidance".....to make good numbers. The truth is ,...if they would shut up, and disappear into their office more often, the numbers might get better. We know what we're doing,....many of us for 35 or 40 years. Freight don't change,...no matter how many computers or PDA's you put on the job. Ever watch your dispatcher scratch his head and ask: "How did you get all that oddball freight into that outbound load? Computer said you couldn't."...Ain't no computer or PDA ever loaded a truck with the oversized, oddball, non-conforming freight we handle,......can't be taught in a classroom. ....And that......................drives them crazy..........
