XPO | Takeover ?

We are still hiring. Office, dock and drivers. But we can’t keep people. No need to cut hours or lay anyone off. They find other jobs just fine on their own.
I think we’re still hiring drivers on because we’re losing new ones faster than we can hire them.
Office staff is in a no hiring freeze

We are a staffing agency for the UPS terminal up the street.

They asked us why. We told them. Better wages. 100% health care. Pension. We were laughed at. And were told those things aren’t possible any more. Funny story. True story. Those things are possible. And all they cost you is an application. They didn’t appreciate that at all. As much as they enjoy laughing at us, they ain’t really got much of a sense of humor at all.
We were told the same , so we did the only thing we could do . There’s a difference between it being possible and just not wanting too.

It's apparent that none of you have any idea what you're talking about; our expenditures at home haven't changed. If you haven't heard, my daddy likes to step on his peasants to fund his high rolling lifestyle. You should see the Maserati he just bought my mom to drive only on Mondays.

I love your posts and creative handle. But there is always a load of truth in any satire. And in all seriousness. Many of us feel we are the vital cog that makes this business operate. After all. No drivers means the trucks don't run and the freight doesn't go. And that makes reasonable sense. But these people ain't reasonable. Not only don't they feel we are vital. They don't even consider us equals as human beings. We are beneath them. Just a bunch of parasites. These people literally have more respect for a dead cat than they do you or me. As far as they are concerned we are nothing but a nuisance to be rid of.

No bull ::shit::. Depending on what happens with the MOU. Which just got extended. The drama ! LOL. People here are literally talking about leaving this place for YRC. Yeah, it's a pay cut. But you have work rules. Health care. And no cameras. It's almost $8 an hour difference, right now. But they will surely get something with the new deal. And most are figuring that, at XPO, we are either getting no raise or maybe even a pay cut. Considering everything that has been in the news about XPO. Faith in corporate has never been less. Faith in the future here has never been lower. We thought we had it bad when we were Con-way. We just didn't know how much worse it was going to get.

Thx driver. Btw... I should, (better), start accruing the max pto rate of 5.385 hours per week the 1st week of April.
Please don’t tell me they’ve either canceled or are about to cancel that benefit because of budget constraints?
Ps , do they still give us a pick from the prize catalog for 25 years...or have they taken that away too?

Whats happening here is the same thing at YRC when Yellow bought Holland, Holland was a good money making company until YRC starting sucking the life out them to pay for their other failing companies. They tried to get to big to fast and lost their ass
Holland was failing before yellow bought them, the other companies were Roadway, New penn And Reimer all owned by Roadway and made money before yellow bought them none were failing companies new penn and reimer actually operated in the low 80’s then. The take overs by yellow hit hard times because of the timing of taking on debt when a recession hit while fed ex and UPS decided to jump into the market.
There’s no recession now. The only comparison that can be made with the two companies is taking on to much debt to achieve growth. We have seen it over and over.

If you recall when Jacobs took over his big plan was to take on all the Amazon work. Amazon don’t pay, as trucking companies are now starting to realize the volume a trucking company gets from cheap Amazon freight is a killer, Amazon will be put into a position where they are forced to pay more to move their freight or do a lot more of their own trucking.

Nice to have someone post here who knows history.

New penn is small as far LTL goes and kept it simple.
Pick it up at point A deliver it on time at point B no damage and get paid.

Seems as all the LTL companies turn corporate they struggle with that now for some reason.

Because the corporate idiots come in and fire experienced freight men and replace them with kids that have college educations. What does sitting in a classroom do to teach you how to get your hands dirty and do the work ? Don’t get me wrong. If you want to be a doctor or a lawyer. You are gonna need an education. In this environment. You need to understand work and what it takes to do the work. That comes from experience. You have to live it and learn from it.

And then they replace the experienced upper management with yes men that are only worried about reports and data. Customers are subjected to worse service because it’s more important to “ feed the beast “, “ reduce empty miles “, “ cube out the trailer “, “ load out the trailer “. Or whatever else they come up with to call it next. And then service failures go up and damages go up and they are just all confused. Why don’t these “ new “ ideas work better than tried and true past practices ?

And then as the company continues to grow more massive the margins get slimmer and slimmer. And next thing they know smaller freight companies are stealing the premium freight. Stuff that pays great. Because they can move it on time and damage free. And now the big company HAS to rely on poor margin freight to survive. And it’s only a matter of time after that. At least that’s the way it seems to go. Over and over.

Before black Wednesda, there was a thread on ABF's forum talking about how they've built new warehouses to handle Amazon freight. Sounds like Judy in Ft. Smith beat BJacobs to the punch in Amazon. According to the ABF guys on the thread Amazon "is paying extra fir the superior service supplied by veteran ABF guys":
