That is one of my most favorite cars, I love seeing them at the shows restored to original.

Breeze you remember when they used to put the battery under the seat in cars?
My 2001 Pontiac Bonneville has it under the rear seat.
This car is as big as they get, supercharged V6, comfortable as can be, and still gets hi 20-low 30 mpg in the city. When you mash the gas, it gets out of its own way..

I also recall our trucks carried 4 -6 volt batteries along with series-parallel switches under the driver's step that gave a lot of problems.

That is because that is how old turbos were.....you had to wind it up to get any power.....Ford tried it in the 80s and those engines didn't last and they scrapped turbo charging (at least in production vehicles) until recently... they have come a long way...power is smooth now and throughout the RPM range....
Ford had a turbo in 1957 that ran like a scalded dog, NASCAR banned it along with the GM fuel Injection, I think that stopped production.
In those days, racing sold cars.

Nascar banned a bunch of neat things, I have smokey yunicks autobiography, he goes into great detail about how much he disliked the heads of Nascar...

We had an old White 5000 on the farm, 220 Cummins, 6-12 electric system, solenoids under the drivers seat, lever for compression release on the dash. Pull the lever, hear the click, spin like heck, shove the lever in, giant cloud of smoke. It's alive!!!!!
Early 60's technology at its best..

Ryder disconnected our compression releases.
We would go down the road, lift the valves and no one could see behind us for a mile.

This has been brought up a bunch. There is a massive gap in energy storage technology. They are trying to work out energy production. And worry about how to hold it later.
