FedEx Freight | They told them to go work somewhere else…

UPS offered buy outs to have Pilots retire as they have too many also. Said they had 200 takers to retire.
I get buyouts… but actively pushing employees out the door to other companies and competitors, you know since most passenger airlines haul some cargo, is a little puzzling.

Uncle was pilot with USAF ( retired with his 20) went to work with Delta airlines after he took some time after his service. Fully retired from FedEx out of the Memphis hub. 15 yrs ish of flying for Fred... Always said it was the best move he could have made besides his military service. That's been several years ago ( retired pre covid, but it treated him pretty good.

The people the run the place were pretty clear about all of this when they did that whole "one Fedex" presentation in April. Less air miles, more road and rail miles.

This isn't surprising and it sucks for the pilots affected. They had it made at FedEx and now they have to go deal with passengers, crews and inconvenient schedules. It's like being a top 10 road driver with the perfect day run, weekends and holidays off and making big money to working for Walmart. Sure, you'll still make plenty of money, but the schedule is erratic and you're working weekends and holidays.

Its not just Fedex or UPS, Maersk parked their small fleet of Cargo aircraft , a Canadian cargo hauler put older aircraft up for sale, parked half their fleet and put on hold future orders. It happening all around the world, air freight has died. Backed to the days of filling passenger cargo holds with their freight.
