I have been in the Teamsters union for over 15 years but I am seriously considering pulling out. Georgia is a right to work state therefore they can not force me to be in it. I am sick and tired of the unions automatically supporting the damn democrat party. Just look what Biden did his first day in office, he killed thousands of union jobs but the unions still back him. I think I will send my withdrawal papers though on Monday, you can call me a scab for leaving and I will call you dumb ass for staying.

There is one road driver at 086 who has been a non-paying union member for a while now. What I find interesting is that it was the union that got him his job back when he had an accident several years ago. But on the other had, I'm not sure he would have been fired at a non-union company for a first time accident with another vehicle.

Lardass, remember this is all politics. Don't storm the White House because of rhetoric. Unless you just want to save $64 a month, being in a union is a benefit most Georgians don't have.

I share your frustration. At one time I was in DRIVE but I withdrew when they supported a candidate I knew had willingly helped a company weather a strike with state tax dollars disguised as the Economic Development Commission. That candidate was William Jefferson Clinton.
I never one time considered withdrawing from the Teamsters though. The company in general has been better than it has to be & that has help attract & retain good employees. That being said, the only reason a company loves you is if daddy owns the company. You should realize nobody at headquarters loves you regardless if you are Teamster or not. You are fortunate to have a contract that for the most part is followed by the company, not because the company loves you but because there are consequences for the company if they do not abide by the agreement.
When you make a mistake, & you eventually will regardless of how devoted you are, you are not at the mercy of some lower level management type tyrant because you are working under a collective bargaining agreement.
You have a pension & benefits that few in the trucking industry have. Handshakes & verbal agreements are not enforceable when those who made them develop amnesia. You have a contract that is enforceable.
I have been a Teamster much longer than you. You will be better off to cool off & think this through before you make such a huge decision that will affect you for the rest of your life.

nah, seeing how the company pays it for me I will keep it, after all I work for it same as you

Part of his point is his $$$ is going to socialist who are destroying good union jobs.
You missed that.
By the way most god jobs do not fire anyone for a first accident unless it is for good cause.
But then they would destroy the need for your beloved union to exist and fork over other peoples $$$ to socialists who hate America

If you withdraw you have to wait for the next contract. you cant withdraw mid contract you have to withdraw due to a change not just because you dont like the candidate they endorse. Not sure which pension plan you are part of, But in every stimulus and funding effort, mainly Dems put forth legislation backed by very few Republicans to fix soon to be insolvent funds. Every time Republicans shut down the effort to help struggling funds. Not every Rep but most!! A new bill was proposed the other day after inaguration by 5 Dems. No Rep. So when the Dems do fix these funds I hope everyone rethinks their position.

Great post. Also, the pro act might get some traction now, which should make it easier to organize. It’s supported by a few republicans who have a lot of union members in their district. It passed the house in feb, but Mconnell wouldn’t let the senate vote on it

No actually having problems navigating the new TB. Don't tell anybody I don't work here! Take care guys!

I got his point about the Democrats, he made it very clear but thanks for pointing it out. It is just that life force's you to "take the good WITH the bad." What we get to choose from; is there more good than bad? Is anyone, or any group, withdrawal from the union going to change what the union promotes? No! Look at the TDU website and the news papers the TDU has put out. Has it changed the agenda of the Teamsters? No. Voting will change the Teamsters philosophy but you can't vote if your not a paying member!!!

How many union elections have been stolen? I'll hang up and listen

I am a 64 yr member, and I too dropped out of DRIVE many years ago but never considered giving up my card.
As you know, Teamsters are required by law to represent non-union members the same as union members.
You probably also know, a good BA knows how to present a non's case before the committee.
That should give a guy second thoughts about giving up his card.

In 15 years I have never had to have a "case" because unlike some I go to work when I'm suppose to and work when I'm there

I know a guy who refused to join. Then had an accident and was fired. Called the BA and demanded representation. The BA said he would put him on the schedule, might take 4-5 months. The fired guy asked- what if i join now? The BA said he was already headed to pick up the check and begin the defense.

People that have seen these things happen, just don't know.
If a company want's to get rid of you, they start building a case on trivial things.
