XPO | Trailer weight

I understand it scales but at our terminal we signed a piece of paper for safe stack training that said no safe stack trailer can weigh over 24000 so they changed that if so I never saw anything about it

Safestack weighs 1500. Can’t change that.

So they say.A Bundle of 25 brand new beams weighs around 400 pounds. Even with the rails on the walls of the trailer it weighs half that at best. Dunnage will add some weight to but then how is it any different from using load racks in the days of old?

You can’t. Sounds like some big giant head figured hey, we can get an extra few hundred pounds freight.... no one will notice.

Aren't the new trailers much lighter ? The new long boxes are so light the nose comes off the ground when you drive into them and they are empty. Might be a reflection of some ideas here and that combined leading to the idea that it's okay for us to pull more, so long as it scales. Lighter trailers, the trailers were always capable of more if loaded correctly and an even bigger push to make numbers.

We've had a couple conversations recently about axles being slid back on the new trailers. Tired of picking the front up. All we need is the one time it kicks away from the dock or folds the landing gear under when it comes back down.

After having it happen to me a couple times, and not liking it. I now slide them back when I get to the barn. I'm not going to be the guy who does that to somebody else. And I am sliding them for drops at customers too.

The complete lack of accountability drives me nuts. And I just end up sounding like a cranky old man. Which maybe ( probably )I am, that don't change that people need to be much more responsible. Or that being deliberately irresponsible is cool or something. It's not.

Just giving a 24700 lbs trailer my senior driver said they raised the weight limits is this true
Just because the manifest says 24700lbs doesn't mean that's the total weight of the freight. When an OB crew does ther job and reweights the freight the only concretion we make is upping the weight. We never correct down. So if a shipper says his skids weights 3000lbs and we reweight it at 2500lbs there is not correction made so that manifest will always show 3000lbs.
I also been told they are only allow to load that heavy if that barn has a scale to weight the trailer. We do not so we will not pull anything over 24k

Don't trailers over the weight limit have to be closed out by a supervisor badge?
