SAIA | Trying to get hired

I currently drive for TFORCE freight. I'm trying to get hired on at Saia. I've heard rumors that the company is reluctant in hiring drivers that come from unions. Has anyone heard of this rumor. I have 16 years safe driving with all endorsements. I can't even get a phone call.

Former teamster/ current saia driver here. It's slow here, that may be why you're not getting a call. There are "pockets" of terminals that actually need drivers but if you're not applying to one of those terminals you might want to hold off. You could try calling the TM of the terminal you're applying to to see what he says

Probably not getting a phone call because economy is in recession. Plenty of ex-Teamsters at Saia nationwide.
I have been trying close to a year. I know someone who works at the terminal where I'm trying to get on. He says that terminal is busy. I have left several voicemails for Saia's regional recruiter Andrea. She has never responded.

That's the Saia way...just string you along until you give up. As previously indicated, in the midst of the current recession, the LTL companies won't be looking to add staff in spite of current freight volumes. Remember that Saia had a big layoff in the last recession (2009) and that's never a good look for a company.

Usually when union/ex union members apply non-union and get crickets for this long its a no go and you should probably just move on. Maybe the person who you know on the inside was asked to vouch for you and if you could smoothly make the switch to non-union, like are you a whiner or trouble maker and he didn't answer to SAIA's satisfaction.
I don't know you and am just saying it is a possibility as you should have heard something in close to a year as they were busy and everyone was hiring back then.

My friend got hired while still at Sysco. They are teamsters. He’s still there after 4 years. I was a former US Foods employee. I knew of acouple others that were former Union guys working there. If they need drivers they don’t care.

The terminal manager where I'm trying to get hired reached out to me. We talked in person. Not an official interview. He wants to hire me but is waiting on a call from HR. Apparently there was an issue with the online application process.
Hopefully I hear back from him soon.
